Why everybody hates The Simpsons now?

I think it's because they overstayed their welcome.
The quality has dropped, the competition is more modern or edgy, the characters and format have nothing else to say. Enough already.

But I know that they'll be missed when they're gone.

Because Bart is played by a female. #CancelTheSimpsons

reply

It isn't funny anymore, hasn't been for years, and Lisa is a smug, self-righteous little turd.

reply

Yes but it's not that different from what it once was.
Same formula, nothing has really changed. I think that's the problem here.
Just many ideas or commentary that once seemed clever, now are stale and outdated or outdone by the competition.

reply

I agree. It still has its funny moments, but it is tame by comparison to other animated shows.

reply

Yep.
And to make things worse, every time they try to catch up by being "modern", "hip" or "cool" they fail miserably like a grandma trying a snowboard to be popular with hergrandsons.

@Moonglum9: Examples of better shows (of its ilk)?

reply

Family Guy
South Park
Rick and Morty, FFS!

ON THIS,WE AGREE.

What they should have done was cancel it after Season 11. The Behind the Music parody was the perfect swansong.

reply

The show will not be missed by me. I haven't watched an episode in years and if I want to see the good stuff I can always stream it or watch it on DVD. It missed its chance to be missed by not finishing near its peak. Instead it carried on 15+ years past its Best Before Date.

reply

The newer episodes are better than the 2000s episodes. I like the HD, and more detail in animation.

The sense of humor is a little predictable, and I don’t like that.

reply

The HD on the old episodes looks terrible imo. The colour looks off, like its too bright and shiny. I can´t speak for new episodes since I don´t watch them.

reply

"now" should be "for the past 20+ years". It isn't a recent thing: the show stopped being funny a long time ago. And for me personally it has long since passed the point where I am even interested in the show.

reply

I think the show for the longest time made fun of the elements of what would be called cancel culture today but now they caved in to the crazies by replacing the voices of minority characters like Apu and Dr. Hibbert. Like it really makes a difference that you can pat yourself on the back for your pointless virtue signaling and I don't think anyone would complain about it in the first place.

reply

it used to be edgy. I even remember my elementary (yes my elementary) school principal having a schoolwide assembly to warn us that anybody caught wearing anything with the Simpson on it would be in deep trouble. Our parents would be immediately called.

Now of course, this is nothing, there is way more offensive stuff online for a school administrator to worry about. But this was 1989--pre-internet/pre-streaming. It's hilarious in hindsight. Bart Simpson comes across as 'mild' by comparison
