I mean the movies are funny don't get me wrong, but OJ kind of ruins it for me now. I just feel strange watching it.

Legally, his sentence couldn't have been based, even partially, on crimes he was acquitted of, but judges do illegal things all the time without admitting what they're doing and coming up with fabricated, supposedly legal bases to justify their conduct.
O.J.'s rank stupidity proved his undoing. With 2/3 of the country salivating at the thought of seeing him in jail, he handed himself to them on a silver platter. For a few mementos and to assuage his frail ego.
Regardless of whether one believes he was, or was not, guilty of two murders, he was definitely guilty of being felony stupid.
