There is no way that my watched a dubbed version will ruin the movie. That's stupid.

A buddy and myself once got high, and attempted to watch a Chinese martial arts film, in Chinese, with no subtitles. Between both of us being a little unstable, a.d.h.d. and the weed, you'd think we'd have shut it off right away, but we actually made it about an hour and a half in before bailing on the attempt, and flipped it back to Nat Geo to watch plane crashes and jailed abroad stories. What were we talking about again?

I love the 2001 dubbed version. The first dubbed version was terrible and they sounded like a bunch of adults in teenage bodies. The 2001 was AMAZING. I watched an interview of the cast members for the 2001 version and they said their goal was to give their characters as much personality as they are supposed to have. I could tell they put a lot of emotion and time into contemplating about their character to get the voices and emotions correct.

Both dubs suck, although the latter less so (to some extent). It only takes a few scenes to see that it misses the mark by a fairly large margin. Do yourself a favor and watch the subtitled version.

I've seen both the dubbed and subtitled. Both are amazing.

The important of voice is extremely overrated in animation. These characters do not exist, they do not have 'voices' in the same way actual actors do. It's perfectly fine to watch animated films dubbed into English if you prefer it that way.

I love anime, and the one single film I've seen, where the dubbing has a significant negative effect on the film is Grave of the Fireflies.

I watched a bit of the dub and found it too distracting. Switched over to subtitles and it was a lot better. The voices don't match up very well in the dub and more than that the delivery for a few characters was somewhat choppy.

The 88 dub is not so bad, didn't know there was another

I respect the OP's opinion but honestly AKIRA is one the better dubbed anime's and if you prefer to actually watch your animes like myself and prefer reading words when you're reading mangas/comics, then watch the dubbed version. It won't disappoint - 10/10 dubbed.

I have just seen the dubbed version - it's pretty good. The voice acting felt authentic to the Japanese essence of the story.

The dub of Macross Do You Remember Love is especially bad because it loses the very cool-sounding Zentradei alien vocal effects.
