Why did they go for campy comedy over horror?

They began mocking themselves in this film, with the silly James Bond opening, silly comical music for characters, leaving the serious tone.

Shame they began turning the series into a joke kind like Nightmare on elm street.

But that tone didn't continue in the rest of the franchise.

The director wanted to do something diffrent, besides the same tone repeated film after film, and I think he did a awesome job. This movie was partially the influence of scream.

There are a LOT of great jokes in here, though. Some of the best are the ones that are almost Easter Eggs, where you have to pay attention to see them.

My favorite is probably the boy lying asleep with a copy of Jean-Paul Satre's "No Exit."

Haha yes I enjoy part 6 as well, it feels fresh.

Horror-Comedy was booming in the mid 80s. Honestly that was the peak for the sub-genre. Almost every film was going the fun and comedic route around this time.

reply

They didn't overdo the humor like in Jason X.

In 1986, Hollywood insisted on horror films having a comedic tone to them

reply

WHICH I LOVE.

reply

Thats why Hollywood did it

Because after a "franchise" releases a movie AFTER a "Final Chapter," that "franchise" is a joke.

But they corrected that error with the next entry titled A New Beginning
