Wasn't this the fan favorite for a long time there?

It had a major impact on pop culture.

It was my older brother's favorite of the series. He would quote Clubber Lang quite a bit.

But I think Rocky IV has maybe captured the "fan favorite title" in recent years?

For me, I go back and forth between 2, 3 and 4.

In my little clique of friends, everybody loved 3 best. They always thought 4 was too over the top and silly. 4 was always my favorite though. I mean really, all the sequels are unnecessary. It may as well be a lot of fun.

IV was always my personal favorite. But I would agree that III was more culturally significant.

For example:

III was the first move where Stallone was ripped.

Hulk Hogan right before his career blew up.

Mr. T right before the A-Team.

The Eye of the Tiger

More culturally significant? Are you kidding me? Rocky IV ended the Cold Frickin' War!

Forget about Reagan or the Pope, it was Rocky (with Gorbachev bleachers)

"What I'm trying to say is that if I can change...(small applause)...and if you can change...(more applause)...everyone can change (huge applause)!"

If that doesn't prove it I don't know what will.

One of the cheesiest movie moments of the 1980s.

By "cheesiest" I assume you mean "greatest."

Yes, you're right this was considered the fan fave for many years. It fit that early 80's vibe perfectly. Sly was a roid ripped bodybuilder by this point. For Rocky 3 he combined wrestling, roids, pop music, colorful characters into a fun, must see summertime movie for it's target audiences.

I don't think Rocky IV had the same cultural impact as it was lazy and only had the pop music to fall back on. The first 4 definitely made tons of money, that's what Sly perfected more than anything.

Still is (as far as I'm concerned)
Best of the bunch.

An AWESOME bad guy will make a good movie great and a great movie legendary.

Your choice as to what this one ended up being.
I pick, legendary.

Mr. T was amazing in the 80s.

I find III balances the elements really well. Great villain, heartbreaking death of Mickey, heartwarming support from Apollo, best song. Its only drawback is a slightly rushed final fight and the epic Rocky victory music is quieter and shorter than usual.

Some days I reckon III is the best, then other days I’m like ‘c’mon you can’t beat the first one’, but then I have a real soft spot for Rocky Balboa (VI) and feel like it’s my favourite.

II is good but doesn’t push the story forward much and is kinda slow. IV is lots of fun but heavy on the cheddar. Controversially, I actually like V quite a bit, it was nice to have a smaller emotional story with the original director returning, especially after the madness of IV.

"He's not a fighter, he's a wreckin' machine!"
"He'll knock you into tomorrow, Rock."

Some of the most memorable dialogue, ever.

I believe the fan favorite Rocky movie has to be Rocky 5 because thats the only one where the villain was a real pro boxer in Tommy Gunn
