I confess I watched this recently for the first time in years and did not care for it much. I hated Bill Murray's character who I thought was a stupid jerk. I prefer other Bill Murray comedies like Ghostbusters 1 and 2, Scrooged, What about Bob, and the Man who knew too little.

i watched scrooged last xmas.
wasnt as good as i remembered

Sounds like ya'll just wanted this to be a goofy comedy all the way through, which it kinda was, but not the way you wanted it to be. It's an army movie ffs. Sure the training-graduation stuff was fantastic, but imo the rest of the movie was good too. There needed to be a little seriousness in there when it came time to actually stepping out of training to go do the real deal in putting their lives on the line.

Yet some of you are saying they weren't ready? How do you think they graduated in the first place? They weren't just training to do that hilarious exhibition of dance moves/army gun twirling. They were getting prepared to become fully ready to go to battle when their names are called upon. It would have been nice to see some more of that along with everything else but hey, it was a comedy 7.5 out of 10 for me.

I do agree.

Perhaps it would have been better to extend the basic training experience and have the graduation ceremony as the conclusion.

Private Benjamin with Goldie Hawn had come out the year before Stripes and been a big hit. It too seems to be two films in one---the first half about a spoiled Jewish American Princess suddenly thrown into the discipline of the army, and the second half a dull romance between Hawn and Armand Assante. Only the first half of that comedy is funny and worth seeing. Stripes is exactly the same way. I saw it recently and was bored stiff in all the stuff about that military Winnebago in the second half.

I actually like this movie more than the original Ghostbusters which I also really enjoyed.

While the second half of the film has grown onto me I agree post Graduation portion of the film wasn't nearly as good as the beginning/Basic Training/Graduation portion of the film.
