Which one is worth watching: original or remake?
I have been wanting to watch one of them, not both, so I would like to know which one is better. No spoilers please!

shareThe remake is more of an action horror movie with violence and jump scares. The original is more of a drama, it shows a bunch of people simply trying to survive in a shopping mall overrun by zombies. Not many jump scares, etc. That's what I liked about it, though.
shareI love horror and zombie movies, and this is one of those rare cases where the remake is far superior to the original, in my opinion. But watch both and decide for yourself.
shareI strongly recommend seeing both. They're both different. The remake done by Zack Snyder is its own standalone film and shares little in common with Romero's. If you're curious, I recommend checking out this web series "Boots To ReBoots". They discus the original and remake in pretty good detail. Check it out sometime. They've done other remakes too.

Both kick a good amount of ass IMHO. The original & remake are both awesome in their own ways. The original may seem dated these days but it's still cool. The remake is definitely more action oriented. Check out both, OP, original first and then the remake. Good flicks!

I prefer the original over the remake. I love it for the social commentary and plus it sits well with my political views and dislike for the consumer culture. The remake doesn't have all that but is a very well made straight-up zombie movie. Easily the best among all these of-dead remakes/readaptations or whatever.
shareThe original of course. In my opinion it is the best horror movie of all time, not the scariest but the best.
shareI don't know, if the fact that the original was made, before I was born, and that I saw it a week before watching the remake at the cinema... But my friends and I laughed hard throughout the old one (granted, we were stoned and drunk)... In example Zombies not being able to traverse escalators, but being able to climb rope ladders... Didn't make much sense to me...
The new one, was really awesome though, in my opinion..
I had almost the exact same reaction to the remake -- only it was the running and gymnast zombies that made me laugh. Some of those zombies looked like they were on PED's.
TWD is the first new zombie films/series to show that the real danger from the shambling corpses is in their numbers. They're dead, rotting and operating on base instincts -- not hanging down from pipes or hopping up from the ground to sprint after their lunch like Usain Bolt.
That said, the remake was a good, straightforward zombie action film. It had its pluses (#1 being the first 15 or so minutes of the film -- that was superb).
P.S. - Also, Shaun of the Dead was another film that showed how zombies don't have to be on steroids to be effective.
The '2004' remake for sure - one of the only movies I have been able to watch half a dozen times..the original I am hard pressed to sit through - so each to his/her own I guess, seeing how many people say the original is better.. Usually remakes are terrible, but this one, for me, does the opposite. I'm 50 this year, and I don't like movies from the 70's much probably because of growing up, and through 5 decades of advances in movie technology and everything else. Movies from the late 80's on just seem to be more sophisticated (No, I'm not being a snob or pretentious), and the ones prior: cliched, contrived, and lacking the 'shine' of many classics since. All that's a generalization, and I'm finding it hard to get the right words so please understand that I am not being obtuse, just didn't have time to write a refined reply.

They are two completely different movies, associated by name in all honesty, the remake wasn't a copy of the original and i believe does well to make itself an individual, i am a BIG fan of the original owning about 20+ versions of the film (and considering it my Fav of all time), but if DOTD04 is playing i will watch it, just see them as standalone films.
shareWhy the heck wouldn't you watch both? I think people should watch both. If you will do yourself the disservice of just picking one, go with the original.
