Which one is worth watching: original or remake?
I have been wanting to watch one of them, not both, so I would like to know which one is better. No spoilers please!

shareIf you really have to pick one for some reason, watch the 1978 classic. It is excellent, and quite memorable. The remake is entertaining enough, and has its moments. But honestly, I forget it very quickly.
shareI echo what others have said, Both are worth watching, they're both cool. The original is better to me. If you can only watch one, watch the original one and enjoy it.
I agree with what another poster said about wishing the "remake" had a different name. Since it really isn't a remake, it shouldn't be called Dawn of the Dead.
Definitely watch both if you're a fan of zombies. 1978 ftw though.
I had to kill Bob Morton because he made a mistake. Now it's time to erase that mistake
It depends on your tastes. The remake is a more fast paced action horror that has sprinting zombies. The original is a lower budget horror satire comedy-drama action/adventure hybrid with slow zombies. I don't see why you wouldn't want to give both a watch though. They're both so different that it's more like watching two separate zombie movies than an original and it's remake.
I prefer the original btw.
I really liked the remake, but I actually have considered a little to watch this one too as it's George A. Romero who's the director!
shareThey're both worth watching, but Romero's is better. You just can't beat the cast of characters, especially Reinger's Roger and Foree's Peter.
If I had to choose between the two, it's not even a thought. I saw version of the film over 2 and a half hours long and still loved every minute of it.
I love to love my Lisa.
" You just can't beat the cast of characters" Exactly. Characters! Something the remake was sorely lacking.
shareThe remake is more action oriented.

Remake. The original one is not-watchable today.

"The original for me is the more interesting and rewatchable. The remake was fun but doesn't hold me the whole length of the movie like the original."
What keeps this above the remake always, first and foremost, the interaction of it's leads. All of them are immensely different, and yet all four work together equally well. Peter and Roger are definitely the most resourceful of the group, but Flyboy, after giving off potential Harry Cooper vibes really comes into his own. You realize his surliness isn't because he's an @ss, but that he's trying to compensate for the skills of Roger and Peter, just doesn't have exactly what it takes. Frannie too, really grows as a character, learning to fly, learning how to shoot. By the time they get things locked off, she's a full-fledged member of the group, taking part in the mall-clean up. The standouts though will always be Peter, who's almost like what Ben could have been if he'd been locked in a house with other people who were more of a help, and Roger, because the guy is just so much freaking fun. If you were to team me up with any of the characters in a Romero "Dead" film, Peter and Roger would be my first picks...Just gotta keep Roger's head together. The remake really had no stand-out characters. Sure Kenneth was interesting and Ana was cool and Michael was a good guy, but you just weren't "With them" like you are with the four leads in Romero's
The second factor that trumps the remake is having the zombies already infesting the mall. This makes a solid portion of the film almost an adventure story. The simple task of going to Penny's for supplies and locking the doors is not only difficult, it's also incredibly risky. Whereas there was a constant threat of the zombies breaching the mall, even after the doors were locked in the original, in the remake, they're already locked in and the danger is written away with the line "Safety Glass, b*tches" or something to that effect. And I don't care how many times Tucker rides the bike around in the remake...It's never going to top Roger driving Peter and Stephen from door-to-door in the original.
Also, it just seems to me like the mall itself is of more importance in the original. Sure they have fun with it in the remake, but there's just more fun to be had in Romero's. The remake just feels like they go to the mall because it's a remake and since the original was set in a mall, the remake had to be set there also. But Romero's really establishes that the mall has everything they want and need, and thus their struggle to seal it off and make it theirs is a bigger deal.
Yeah, the zombies aren't as well-done as Savini's work in "Day", and the blood is fluorescent, but these are very minor quibbles in an otherwise outstanding film. Night put zombies on the map, but Dawn sealed the deal, and none of the zombie films that have come after it would probably have seen the light of day without Dawn being created.
I love to love my Lisa.
This in its entirety. I could not agree more.
