Time to cast votes: Goblin soundtrack - great or terrible?

I loved it. I recently find out that a lot of people hate it with passion. What say ye? Yey or ney.

I found the score very distracting and overbearing. A shame, because I watched Deep Red the day before and thought the music in that was fine and used appropriately.

"You average, typical, blocking the view of a God-damn, average, victim Bastard!"

Umm, great. Obviously.

It's awful music. I hate it! I also think it's oppressive and obtrusive, and really detracts from the mood of the film. I suspect it also sends my blood pressure soaring. My mute button gets more exercise than ever whenever this movie plays.

Love it.

It fits the mood of the scenes it's played over. The howling screeching woman threw me off the first time I saw the movie, but it's a good chaotic & violent track put over equally violent and chaotic images.

And the 'main' one that sounds like bells? Gorgeous, I love that track. The clarity and 'purity' of the bells, contrasted with the ominous 'vocals' underneath it? Love it. It completely makes the scene where Susie is walking down the hall and gets hexxed by the cook & Albert.

Loved it :) Especially the industrial percussion and creepy, repetitive musicbox tune. It's so overdone and in your face but thats what makes it fit the films atmosphere

...or something far more sinister?

reply

loved it. Especially when the percussion is used. It is sometimes used stupid in parts of the movie, but i think it's really a unique piece of film music. And comeo one, who watches Suspiria for the story and the great acting? it's about the colors, the sets and the whole mood.

how can someone NOT LIKE THIS SOUNDTRACK??

I think people are so used to crap music nowadays that they cant notice good music even if it is flashed in front of their faces.

Goblin is a great progressive band, they remember me of King Crimson, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Banco del muttuo soccorso and other experimental prog bands.

Suspiria soundtrack is just amazing.

I loved the music. I disagree with people saying that the music in a film should stay in the background. Sometimes it should take centre stage, just look at the music in Psycho. Scores are too quiet in the mix these days and more often than not, are competiting with the sound effects department. There are very few directors with good ears. It's such a shame. So it's okay to notice a film's visuals, but not its music?

Would you enjoy the shower scene music playing during scenes where its totally unnecessary and intrusive?

To be fair, I can honestly understand why people dislike this sort of prog. It's extremely "noisey", and I say that as a fan of progressive(incidentally)/technical death metal. Death metal!

I hear his theme music, he's around here somewhere...

It's my favorite soundtrack ever.

I think the music works good - I feel like Suspiria is a nightmare and nothing is normal in a nightmare, it really adds to the atmosphere and creates what I think is to me one of the greatest horror films ever.

really amazing and demonic. They made the film, along with the red and brightly coloured strange imagery. I want to decorate my house in that style.
