Time to cast votes: Goblin soundtrack - great or terrible?

I loved it. I recently find out that a lot of people hate it with passion. What say ye? Yey or ney.

HATED IT! Gave me a headache and as someone else said, it was overkill.

Its a good soundtrack but often poorly implemented in the film.

I mean there are many scenes that aren't as intense or scary as the soundtrack seems to think they are.

example:

Two characters talking to each other about something important. Meanwhile the ominous score is BLASTING over their dialogue.

Me (old man voice): What the hell are they saying?! Something about a witch?!

The soundtrack would have been way more effective if it only kicked in on scenes that are actually suspenseful or scary. And let the quiet moments actually be quiet, or have a little bit of suspenseful music playing on low volume.

So a "ney" that could have been a "yey".

The Goblin score is unforgettable. I saw this movie for the first time when I was thirteen and the music has never totally left me.

Utter garbage. I personally prefer something more along the lines of Penderecki or Crumb when it comes to horror... That being said, when it comes to your typical harpsichord-driven nightmare-fuel funk that so many giallos feature, Argento should've gone with someone like Stelvio Cipriani, who was a much more competent composer than the half-wits in Goblin.

Hell, keep the Goblin score, just dial it down in the mix. A perfect example is the scene when the girls are all sleeping in the rehearsal space after maggots infest their rooms. We're supposed to be hearing the mysterious and terrible snores of someone who's not supposed to be present, but they are drowned completely by the music.

EDIT: I almost forgot. The biggest crime the score commits? Not just having a corny raspy whisper-shout vocal layer, but actually whisper-shouting "WITCH!" within the first 5 minutes, totally ruining what should've been a surprising plot point later on.
