Why are they not remaking this?
It's perfect to remake. I know everyone will be upset, because remakes are lame, but if they did it right it would be great. does anyone agree?

Because you don't remake classic, iconic films. You remake the good films that are not well known. If you want to remake a great crime film then remake Charley Varrick.

And then we can remake The Godfather and No Country For Old Men : )

wow. its impossible to remake. It wouldn't work from the start. the gritting french new wave like filming that made it so real, and exciting, would instantly be overthought, filmed like a Guy Ritchie movie, and there again we would have another horrible remake.!!! TEE HEE TEE HEE
H.W.
I agree with someone earlier who said that this movie has been indirectly remade hundreds of time already by inferior but similar movies. The audience today would find the idea of the movie very new at all. What made this movie great was the actors involved and the incredible direction, both of which you can't remake.
shareOne of the biggest stars of this film is 70's New York. You can't fake that easily....

Maybe not a remake because while based on actual events the film is a work of fiction. In real life the "Popeye" character was linked to the Mafia and the record haul "disappeared" from police custody. That seems the basis for a new movie.
shareGene Hackman is still out there. Throw money at him and David Mamet and there's a sequel that at least wouldn't be worse than FC2.
have a nice life!
NO!!! It's PERFECT the way it is!
