Why are they not remaking this?

It's perfect to remake. I know everyone will be upset, because remakes are lame, but if they did it right it would be great. does anyone agree?

It HAS been remade hundreds of times.

And no, it doesn't need a remake. Just watch the original or the hundreds of wannabe spawns that came after it.

It's basically been remade about a million times in other guises. Cops hunt drug dealers, one's a little reckless, chase chase, bang bang, the end. It's not financially worthwhile to remake it under its original title when you can just emulate it and keep more of the takings for yourself!

Why remake what is already a brilliant film ? What would be the point ?

reply

exactly... it would only be a waste of time. You cannot improve a brilliant movie!

And they'd probably make it "The Mexican Connection", to update it/make it more relevant.
lol.

Tell you what only if they redo the car/train chase using the same line (the West End) as Bay 50th St has been my home subway stop since 1998. So I can be there.

for one, this movie is based on a real drug investigation that's now almost 50 years old.it's not as relevant or familiar as when initially released.

I just happened to watch this movie tonight for the first time in close to 20 years I think. It doesn't need to be remade, it is brilliant. Very real, very gritty, I admired how the story did not have to be completely spelled out to the viewer at every turn, an absolutely unreal car chase, just perfect. This is a masterpiece and masterpiece's do not deserve to suffer a re-make.

Everyone gets everything he wants.

if contemporary audiences can't get their heads round perfectly good movies that are 20+ years old then the problem is theirs and not the film

And I looked & I beheld a pale horse & the name that sat on him was Death & Hell followed with him.

In a way they did remake this. In 1975 was the sequel FRENCH CONNECTION II. That movie, although not as good as the original, is a pretty good sequel and should satisfy all moviegoers who may be inquiring about a remake!!! Case closed. :o)
