Western Fantasy
This movie was not meant to be realistic. It was a fantasy or Western fairy tale from start to finish. Union soldiers like Angel Eyes did not abandon their posts and go on wild goose chases. That would get you shot or hung for desertion. The most unrealistic was the battle scene at the bridge. The artillery and siege mortars were too big and heavy to be moved around. Two guys would not be allowed to take a case of dynamite and blow up the bridge. They would be shot by both sides. After blowing up the bridge you go to sleep in a foxhole and when you wake up everybody and all the guns are gone? There just happens to be a loaded artillery piece left behind by the Confederates that blows Tuco off his horse. Finally, you cannot cut a rope with a rifle shot. I have seen programs where experts fail to sever a rope with a single shot - couldn't be done. Nevertheless, it was still a fun movie!
