Thanks to those of you who can count to ten. As I understand it, this is supposed to be a list of personal favorite films, as opposed to judging the ten best films ever made. Simply imagine you are going to a deserted island and can only take ten films with you. My choices, in no particular order, would be:
CHILDREN OF PARADISE (L'ENFANTS DU PARADIS)
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (Cocteau version)
JULES AND JIM
HENRY V (Olivier version)
LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
THE RED SHOES
MANHATTAN
THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD
WHAT'S NEW, PUSSYCAT?
THE THIRD MAN

Ten doesn't begin to cover my favorite films but if I had to choose, I'd pick these:

The 400 Blows
Ballad of a Soldier
La Strada
Pickpocket
Pather Panchali
L'Avventura
Children of Paradise
Beauty and the Beast (1946)
Nights of Cabiria
Au Hasard Balthazar

I know that these are all foreign films and made before 1970, but I just like my films that way, just as some people have only seen movies released during their lifetimes, usually concentrated in the late 90s and early 2000s. To name some modern films:

Mulholland Dr.
Manhattan
Leaving Las Vegas
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Dogville
Elephant
Amores Perros
Oldboy
Manderlay
Perfume
