My favorites, thanks for reading!

-"8 1/2" (1963) (Fellini's marvel, and, ah, Marcello!)
-"Cave of the Yellow Dog" (2005) (a little German film about a girl, her dog and Buddha somewhere in Mongolia - beautiful)
-"Sullivan's Travels" (1941) ("a true canvas of the suffering of humanity ... with a little sex in it" from Preston Sturges)
-"Lifeboat" (1944) (Hitchcock's most under appreciated work- life, lust and murder aboard a dingy in the Atlantic)
-"Un homme et una femme" (1966) (A love story, what can I say ... sweet, stylized film, memorable music and Anouk Aimee)
-"Miller's Crossing" (1990) (Don't care much for gangster movies, but could watch this one over and over for John Turturro and Albert Finney- awesome script and cast)
-"Howard's End" (1992) (upper middle-class British twits snub the fabulous Schlagel sisters in 1910s to a beautiful score and cool film editing. Great story, acting, Emma Thompson, cast)
-"Passion of Joan of Arc" (1928) (three words: Maria Falconetti's eyes)
-"Impromptu" (1991) (Racy novelist Madame George Sand wears the pants in 1830s France and chases poor Chopin around the country- hilarious with outstanding cast)
-"Rashomon" (1950) (I'd watch this just for the scene of the spirit conjurer)
-"Rang-e khoda (The Color of Paradise)" (1999) (A man wants to abandon his blind son to marry again, but grandma won't have it- beautiful story and Iranian countryside)

Just a few more ...
"The Bicycle Thief" (1948)
"Cool Hand Luke" (1967)
"Lucia y el sexo" (2001)
"Faust" (1926, Murnau)

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly? Thats laughable, that film is very thin, featuring a shallow plot and three very cliched and predictable characters. The plot revolves around three guys who basically are not very realistic characters or ones we can relate to, one is ugly one is a good guy and the other is a bad guy. They go to find gold and in the end the good guy wins. It has a thin plot, thin dialog and very thin characters, yet the young people today are treating it like its cinematic brilliance!

I have no idea why people try to pretend that it has any merit alongside films like 8 1/2 or Ran, but for some reason because its enjoyable its the equivalent?! Wake up people it isn't a great film; a fun film thats enjoyable in spots (though it could be shortened by about an hour), but not brilliant. Why do people talk about it like it is? Got to be one of the most overrated films in history.

Goodfellas is pretty overrated considering it is many places ahead of Raging Bull, but I'd say The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is more so, considering its over 100 places ahead of Leone's real masterpiece: Once Upon a Time in America.

Goodfellas is pretty decent though, and while I wouldn't give it a 10/10, I certainly think it deserves a 9/10.

The Searchers by the way has very complex characters, if a slightly simplistic plot.

Don't get me wrong, i throughly enjoyed it as well, but what I mean to say is it really doesn't deserve to be in any top 100 list, it doesn't have what it takes. A very fun film? Yes, A Masterpiece in every aspect? Certainly not.

trouter your an idiot. The Good, The Bad and the Ugly is ones of the best directed, most stylistically original and beautiful films, ever. I would rank Leone amongst the top five film makers ever. Once Upon a Time in America, while a masterpiece, is not his best film. I would rank his films like this:

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Once Upon A Time in The West
Duck, You Sucker
Once Upon A Time in America
For A Few Dollars More
A Fistful of Dollars

Leone never made a bad film. He also created four cinematic masterpieces. I love Kurosawa. Ran is beautiful. It is up there with Leone's films, but it is not Kurosawa's best. The Good, The Bad and the Ugly is better than Ran and possibly 8 1/2. La Dolce Vita. There is a film that might be better than the Good The bad and the Ugly.

Hmm....interesting list.

The first nine are indeed quite all excellent. But, Hiroshima Mon Amour? I know Alain Resnais is well acclaimed for his Nazi camps documentary and for Last Year at Marienbad. But, try as I might I just can't understand his films. Emotionally, I find his films colder than Kubrick. I didn't see all of Hiroshima - I found it too slow and uninvolving - I still have the DVD lying around somewhere. I really wish I could understand the appeal and appreciate this film...

5. Oldboy (Was in the top 3, but the great thing about this film is the greatness of the story when you see it for the first time.
