Should be in the AFI 100. All who agree chime in!

This movie, without question, should be in the AFI's top 100 films. Andy Griffith's performance is nothing short of spectacular, and this film has become so real today.

If you agree, put a post here. Let's see if we can start a petition or something; replace Titanic with this!

Not simply one in a hundred. One in a million. Under-appreciated ever since it came out and now still one of the most terrifying appraisals of American goofiness ever put on film. You definitely have my vote!

Yes.

Cannot believe I got this old without even hearing about it. Impossibly good, and totally relevant today. I don't say it much, but someone good needs to do a remake. About a dozen scenes need to be revised to make it up to date, but otherwise you could do a shot-for-shot, line-for-line remake that would ring perfectly true.

ABSOLUTELY YES!!! I watched this movie three times recently and I could watch it again right now. You couldn't make a film like this today. Think of the cast, the director, the screenplay, the beautiful, sensitive cinematography...nothing these days could touch it.

Titanic relied on special effects to wow the audience. A Face in the Crowd relied on something missing in current cinema: TALENT.

I agree. Can't believe Andy Griffith wasn't even nominated for the Oscar...He should have won
I guess it's like looking at clouds. You see one thing and I see another. Peace.

And I'd rank it pretty high in that hundred, too.

Couldn't agree more. One of my all time favorites. I think this was Andy Griffith's first movie and he absolutely nailed it!!!! I don't know of anyone in history who gave such an Oscar worthy performance on their first try. IMHO,, the great Burt Lancaster is the only other person who could have played this part. Having seen all of Sheriff Andy and Ben Matlock,,, this movie shows the REAL depth of his ability. I don't know why he didn't take on more dramatic rolls.

Was it a bit over the top??? Was Elmer Gantry a bit over the top??? They were written to be larger than life characters and Burt Lancaster got an Oscar for his effort.

Aside from his performance, it is just a great movie. The actors, story, characters, direction, lighting, cinematography, sound, editing. This movie lacks nothing and should be ranked as one of the greats..

Sadly,,, this movie is proof of what a barren wasteland of moviedom we now live in..

This movie is awesome. Just an excellent story. Reality show and the challenges of entertainment. The best line is a man has to be a saint to handle all that power. I love this movie. One of the best.
