Rashomon or Seven Samurai?

Rashomon - for me.

I find it strange that so many have 7 Samurai on top. I though they should be at least neck and neck. But no doubt, they are Kurosawa's best two.

Rashomon is the better film, Seven Samurai is the better movie. By that I mean Rashomon is probably the most brilliant thing Kurosawa ever directed, but SS is the one that your going to find yourself watching 10 times.

Rashomon is my favourite movie. I go with it.

I'd say Ikiru is Kurosawa's best.

Seven Samurai contains great dialogues, while Rashomon added a new subgenre (which is actually called Rashomon; used for movies that tell several versions of a story) to the movie industry.

It's an interesting question. I'm no great judge of movie-making so I can only go with my personal feelings. I saw SS first many, many years ago. Have seen it a few times since. At this stage of my life (I'm 64), I prefer Rashomon -- at least partly because I'm more drawn to philosophical themes now than action/adventure. Rashomon stimultes my brain more. And it's shorter -- a plus for me.

Rashomon.

The Seven Samurai is an excellent epic action film with much heart and soul. A great inspiration for westerns, both American and Spaghetti.

Rashomon goes deeper into the heart of humans, though. I was truly blown away by this work of art. Superbly written, acted, and the cinematography was beautiful. It is Kurosawa's masterpiece!

Rashomon is brilliant, but not for everybody.
Seven Samurai is the complete package.
I like both equally.
