Rashomon or Seven Samurai?

Rashomon - for me.

I find it strange that so many have 7 Samurai on top. I though they should be at least neck and neck. But no doubt, they are Kurosawa's best two.

Seven Samurai it's a pretty easy choice.

I think we can all agree that both are great films, which are stronger in different areas; Rashomon is definitely more interesting from a philosophical standpoint, but Seven Samurai far exceeds Rashomon from a technical standpoint.

My personal preference is Seven Samurai (though, it's easily my second or third favorite film, so my opinion may be a little biased). Seven Samurai is the quintessential samurai film, with excellent storytelling and direction, interesting characters (esp. Kikuchiyo), and although it may not be about having a message as much as Rashomon, it definitely delivers a very insightful message about warriors and farmers, nonetheless.

Out of those two 'Seven Samurai' wins for me becasue for me it was more entertaining and felt like a solid, influential story. I see more influence from seven samurai than rashamon.

Although I feel as if 'ikuru' is the best Kurosawa film of the 7 I have seen.

Rashômon: 8/10
Seven Samourai: 5.5/10

All those who don't agree... disagree.

rashomon by far.

seven samurai has a thin plot that can be summorized in a few senteces, yet the movie is fricking 3.5 hours long.
rashomon, on the other hand, is only 1.5 hours long and tells a story from 4 different perspectives.
