What was John Candy's last great movie in your opinion?

IMO I consider "Cool Runnings" to be John Candy's last great movie of his career, shame he died not long after the movie's release.

Ghostbusters

reply

I didn't know he appeared in Ghostbusters, you must be thinking of the music video and not the movie.

reply

He wasnt the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man?

reply

He was originally cast as Louis Tulley but bowed out and Rick Moranis took over.

reply

Candy was funny, and a good entertaining comedic actor, but I think it would be a stretch to call anything he did "great".

reply

PLANES,TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES,SPACEBALLS,THE BLUES BROTHERS,THE GREAT OUTDOORS AND UNCLE BUCK ARE ALL GREAT...END OF STORY.

reply

That's your OPINION ... end of your credibility.

reply

No. The end of your credibility. Watch how this will hound you.

reply

No, you are! .... how original.

reply

And replying with "end of your credibility" is original? lol

reply

PRETTY SHITTY PLACE YOU CHOSE TO MAKE YOUR DAFT STAND.🤔

reply

Daft stand, as in pointing out that is your opinion when it is your opinion?

reply

UNIVERSAL FACT FRIENDO...JOHN CANDY WAS GREAT...AT THE VERY LEAST...PLANES,TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES IS GREAT...

END OF YOUR CREDIBILITY.🍆

reply

I agree about that one. His best performance and best movie.

The Blues Brothers is also pretty great. I'd rate Spaceballs as pretty good. The Great Outdoors is OK. Never saw Uncle Buck, actually. I'll have to do something about that.

reply

Just sounds comedy isn't your thing to be honest. People are free to agree or disagree, but sometimes ppl aren't really in a good place to have a reasonable opinion.

reply

Like you here now.

Cmon, Uncle Buck was and is great and the definitive John Candy film. Its a shame he didnt have more great movies they just didnt seem to know how to handle him. He was so like-able, charming and funny.

reply

The Big Lebowski

reply

Planes, Trains and Automobiles was his last great film. Cool Runnings was decent, but not great.

reply

What about "Uncle Buck"?

reply

I'm not a big fan of Uncle Buck. I thought it was just ok.

JFK

reply

Agreed on JFK. It showed how Candy was blossoming into a great dramatic actor.

reply

Yes, agree too. Also loved, "Only the Lonely." I thought that was also a great performance. Very funny and very true to life.

reply

It's hard to say. Usually, if the film wasn't good, it wasn't because of him. Though he had better movies and performances, I'll remember him for Harry Crumb, because that was the first time I saw him.

reply

It's been years since I saw "Who's Harry Crumb", I do remember it not being a great movie when I first saw it on HBO.

reply

It's not. I saw it when it came out. Laughed my ass off. I was 9.

Cool Runnings

reply

Not sure...
