Unfortunately, we live in a binary-minded era where anyone who says *one* thing we agree with just MUST subscribe to ALL our opinions, or conversely anyone who says one thing we *disagree* with MUST represent everything that is evil and wrong in the world.

Thankfully, Richard Dreyfuss seems to think and operate outside such simplicities.

Should Beasts Of No Nation have had a plucky Irish kid in it?

Did The Godfather require Carlos Mencia for comedic relief?

Certain stories need to be told well from a particular ethnic viewpoint, why not let that great story telling just happen organically?

I do agree with Dry Pus however what he is claiming is a double standard! As a Jewish man he was granted and “in” to the movie biz along with other Jewish producers, directors, actors, writers , grifs etc. when other was excluded in a Jewish studio run system!
How the playing field was been leveled and he is shitting his pants.

Inclusion does not make him vomit. The new Oscar diversity rules make him vomit. He sees the rules as a way of restricting artistic freedom. That does not mean that he is against inclusion. He just doesn't support this particular method of achieving it.

Well said.

My issue with it is that it makes a mockery of the Oscars as a barometer of the 'best in film'. If certain films are to be excluded from consideration in accordance with a political/sociological basis, irrespective of the films' *artistic* merit, it further diminishes the Academy Awards as any sort of accurate benchmark of quality.

Whilst it may be desirable that every film features some sort of diversity, whether before the screen, or behind the camera, I don't think this is the way to achieve it. It's on the studios to ensure such 'mandates', assuming such mandates are remotely a good idea, and not on the people who simply watch and judge the films.
