Most overrated director in history?

Yes Pulp Fiction was good. But only because of the actors, not the script or direction. As for his other films the vast majority are junk. The nail on the coffin for me was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. How he could turnan important subject into something so poor is beyond me. I mean really: watching the two idiots Brad and Leonardo pretending to act is excruciating. And the taking of a true story and making it fake news some may like. I'm proud to say I'm not one of them!

Didn't see Once Upon A Time ... but I have to admit, I don't like a lot of stuff in his movies, but he has talent.

Pulp Fiction I could do with or without, don't care. But I did like the screenplay to "True Romance" which was a good movie, entertaining at least.

Also Jackie Brown was excellent. He has a way to blend suspense and humor, and has good visuals and timing.

Inglourious Basterds upset me in the first scene so much I had to leave. I watched it a second time and could appreciate it more. Also the scene in the cellar and the shootout was a real scream.

Also Hateful Eight was very clever and interesting.

When any director can make one, let alone 3 movies that are so good, you cannot say he is over-rated. There will always be lunatic fans that everywhere you go always say this or that actor, director, musician, group .. whatever is the greatest, but you have to give talent its due.

Tarantino has a mark against him in my book. I just do not like that guy. He is a whiny SOB the way he treated his first wife, and then how he injured Uma Thurman ... he is an a-hole.

reply

He didn't injure Uma. It was an accident on set.

reply

Tarantino, Fincher, Scorsese and Nolan are the mount rushmore of overrated.

reply

Agreed.

reply

Not the most overrated, no way. He might be slightly overrated at times, but even that I'm not sure about.

I love most of his films so to me he isn't, I can understand how some might think he's overrated, regardless, to say he's the most overrated in history is hyperbole.

That being said, I think he's probably a better writer than he is a director. Like, I'm glad he directed the films he's known for, but I'm actually glad he didn't direct True Romance, it think it's probably a better film because Tony Scott directed a script Tarantino wrote.

reply

Pulp Fiction was crap. But however, Tarantino has directed few excellent movies (Jackie Brown, Kill Bills, The Hateful Eight and I'd count in even Death Proof), so I don't think he is overrated, certainly not THE most overrated. That honour belongs to James Cameron.

reply

NO...HE IS ONE OF THE BEST IN HISTORY.

What's especially dumb about the original post is the claim that it's only the actors that made Pulp Fiction any good. This ignores the fact that stars like Bruce Willis practically begged to be in the film because they were so impressed with Tarantino's script (as well as Reservoir Dogs). Willis was impressed enough that he persevered through QT's rejection of him playing the Jules role. Further, Pulp Fiction obviously resurrected Travolta's career, another indication that Tarantino's writing elevates the actors rather than the other way around, if anything.

reply

Definitely a finalist

reply

Certainly one of them. QT seems to appeal to people who mistake idiosyncrasy for talent.

reply

He’s a one-trick pony
