Do you have a favorite Tim Curry role? Do you think he is a great actor or is his range somewhat limited? Can he only play unusual and outlandish characters? Is he leading man material?
I love Tim Curry but I've always wondered what others thought.
Probably a tossup between Pennywise in Stephen King's It and Hexxus in Fern Gully. Hard to say if could play a leading man, since so many of his roles were of him as the villain. But I think he'd be a cool benevolent rich uncle character, like an Oliver "daddy" Warbucks type, that's a positive role I could see him absolutely killing.
Probably like a lot of people the first thing I saw him in was Rocky Horror. I was blown away and fell in love.
Penny wise was such a scary character. Great performance.
I liked him in Home Alone 2.
He also played a serial killer on Criminal Minds. I didn’t know that until I bought some of the seasons of the show. I was not a regular viewer. He was so wildly creepy in that role.
My love for Tim Curry is rooted in Rocky Horror, as well. The first time I watched it, it was more of a feeling of "What the hell did I just watch"? 😂 But over time I fell in love with both him and that movie.
I think Tim Curry could have most successfully pulled off a leading man role if it was in a musical. (I guess that's basically what he did in Rocky Horror.) Beyond that, unless it was in some sort of quirky horror-themed leading man role I'm not so sure it would feel right. He did play Gomez Adams once, I believe, which seems to fit.
He is indeed awesome. I need to rewatch "It". I was so young when I watched it the first time I don't think I properly appreciated him. It's sad to me that his health has gone downhill so much that he'll probably never act again.
I've always thought of The Hunt for Red October as the most normal and mainstream successful movie he was in. His particular role was not very big though he did a good job with it. It would be hard for me to envision him having a major role in a major mainstream film, though.
I can't pick a favourite. I think my first Tim Curry experience was Annie (1982). He is the reason Rocky Horror is so good. I love him in Clue, and although it's not a movie, What About Dick?
He's done so much voice work.
He plays such fantastic villains, like in Legend, Ferngully, Criminal Minds and IT, which were very different characters.
As for him being a leading man??? I don't know. I do think he has some range, but what he does he does so well, I don't really care. He was so charismatic to watch.
Charismatic is the perfect word. He has a certain zest for life. And you're right, what he does, he does so well it doesn't matter if it's a lead role or a background part. He captures your attention no matter what he's doing.
I loved him as Nigel St. Nigel in
Psych: S2 E1 (American Duos) playing a Simon Cowell type character as a talent show judge. You can tell he had fun playing the character
I had never seen that. It felt like watching Frank-n-Furter with no makeup on. Somebody in the comments section wrote that he flirts mercilessly with all of us and that kind of sums it up.
