Movies or tv shows based on songs or song titles

I remember that Dolly Parton did a show based on her song titles. I do not remember seeing any of it. But along those lines what songs or song titles at least could or should be made into movies or tv shows.
Examples
Carry On Wayward Son
Man of Miracles

Some that immediately spring to mind:

Alice's Restaurant
You Can't Hurry Love
That Thing You Do!

Stand by Me
Blue Velvet
Sea of Love
Who'll Stop the Rain
Dazed and Confused

I don't know if these are actually based on or inspired by the song, or if the filmmaker just used the title.

Life on Mars
Ashes to Ashes
Goodnight Sweetheart

If you’re asking for suggestions, which I think you were, story-based songs would obviously work best. Some that come to mind are:

Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves - Cher
Cats in the Cradle - Harry Chapin
Stan - Eminem
The Killing of Georgie - Rod Stewart
Papa Don’t Preach - Madonna
Smooth Criminal - Michael Jackson
Hotel California - The Eagles

Hhmm, good question to wake up with......

I'll have to pass on TV shows because one wouldn't have a clue.

Movies on the other hand.....

Hhhhmmmm

Ok...

"Ode to Billy Joe"

"Harper Valley PTA"

"COnvoy"

I'm sure there are more - but nothing else is coming to me.

Actually, thinking Beatles, I believe there was a movie called...

"Across the Universe"

Yeah that's it, that's all I've got.

I love the song Harper Valley PTA. 😁 That twinkle she has in her eye as she sings about that mama letting the hypocrites of the town have it is fantastic.

reply

All right 4L! Good for you....

He*&%$#l yeah, Harper Valley PTA is a very cool song.

It's a good story, too.

Of the top of my head, I don't remember who sings it - I remember she's cute though.

Right, hypocrites, that's right - giving girls a hard time about dressing a certain way (if memory serves).

PS - it just came to me - Jeanne Riley??

reply

Yep- Jeannie C. Riley. Here's the video I love. She looks like she's having so much fun telling the story.

HAHAH! OUtstanding - I got it.

OMG, its been years since I've since I've seen the video.

Cool, I'm gonna check it out right now.

PS - Yeah, she is cute, LOL.

The old guy is strumming away on the guitar.

It's funny, actually apropos because the lessons apply to this day.

Good stuff, thanks for the video 4L - now I'm all hyped up - gonna go downstairs and clean my kitchen!

I don't know if I'm correct about this but I always thought this song must have been very hard to memorize. So many different scenarios that she's listing out at that PTA meeting. I'm probably wrong but it just always felt like this song had more words than the usual song. I was always really impressed that she sang it so flawlessly in that live performance.

reply

Yeah, it's a song and an actual story at the same time.

She does do a great job. The guy on the guitar is good, too.

Well, I guess, so they say.....

Practice, practice, practice

not entirely answering the question,
but most episodes of Grey's Anatomy use a song title as their title.

some SE04 examples:
Crash Into Me (Dave Matthews Band)
Kung Fu Fighting (Carl Douglas)
A Change Is Gonna Come (Sam Cooke)

The one that comes to mind right off the bat is Nowhere Man - first a Beatles song and then a TV show.

If you're never seen the TV show, I recommend it. It's a Prisoner rip off but it's quite good. The premise of the show is that a photographer takes a picture of something he shouldn't have and then has his life erased.
