Can Someone Recommend…

Can someone recommend a revenge film that’s ultra violent, not politically correct and caters to the male gaze? Preferably shot on actual film, released in the 70s - 80s and the country of origin is not the USA?

Thanks

The Lone Wolf and Cub series. There's naked women in it, but I'm not sure if I'd say it's catering to the male gaze.

Ogami Itto!

He's got the body of a watermelon, but can still kick ass.

...while changing nappies.

Ive got a good one, but I think, off the top of my head, it was released in 1969.

Its an Italian Western with Henry Fonda and Charles Bronson.....

"Once Upon a Time in the West"

Big time revenge film.

reply

10/10 one of the best westerns ever made

reply

Thriller(A Cruel Picture) made in 1973 in Sweden. It's a rape revenge movie if that describes what you're looking for.

8/10 maybe the ultimate revenge film

I have the Vinegar Syndrome 4k/bluray set.

I heard they used a real corpse for the eye cut scene. I have this poster hanging up in my computer room. :)

Someone will probably say "Rolling Thunder" although I thought it was very average

reply

Fantastic ending. 8/10

reply

I don't even remember it, lol

I’ve always thought this was a really great analysis of the film. Check it out.

8/10 love it!

The Virgin Spring might be the granddaddy of them all. It’s Swedish, directed by Ingmar Bergen but it came out in 1960. The Last House On The Left borrows heavily from this plot line.

Straw Dogs (71) was filmed by Sam Peckinpah but was shot in Cornwall England.

Both are very good.

reply

8/10 for Straw Dogs but I’ve never seen The Virgin Spring.

This was supposed to be a parody post, but I do appreciate all the recommendations. 😄

You guys are the best!

reply

I thought it was weirdly specific and the "male gaze" part didn't sound like you, but I thought you were asking for a friend or something.

reply

Yeah, I’m glad ya caught that. Good recommendation though!

I’ve never seen the 6 films of lone Wolf and Cub, but I did see the movie that’s a mixture of them. I especially liked the soundtrack.

Edit: I just remembered that the one I saw was called Shogun Assassin.

reply

You should watch them for the sheer violence. The main character is like James Bond in the sense that he always conveniently has a gadget that gets him out of situations.

reply

Adding to my watchlist. 👍

reply

Aw man, you know I love these kinds of specific list threads. Oh well; there will be more... :D

reply

No, no. I love the list threads also. I just thought I’d throw one out there that was a bit off the wall. In fact, I have seen most of the suggestions already. :)

reply

Of course you have! Glad you got the Lone Wolf and Cub movies added to the watchlist, though. There's even three seasons of a TV series from 1973, just not starring the great Tomisaburô Wakayama.

And since I can't resist, throwing out Greenaway's The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989), though you've probably seen it.

reply

I have NOT seen or even heard of that one before. I read just a bit about it and stopped so that I won’t know much going in. Bumping it to the top of my list and thank you!

reply

Sweet! It might not be wall-to-wall ultraviolence, but it's a freaking *doozy,* that one! And a hell of a cast, to boot...
