Can someone recommend a revenge film that’s ultra violent, not politically correct and caters to the male gaze? Preferably shot on actual film, released in the 70s - 80s and the country of origin is not the USA?
The Virgin Spring might be the granddaddy of them all. It’s Swedish, directed by Ingmar Bergen but it came out in 1960. The Last House On The Left borrows heavily from this plot line.
Straw Dogs (71) was filmed by Sam Peckinpah but was shot in Cornwall England.
You should watch them for the sheer violence. The main character is like James Bond in the sense that he always conveniently has a gadget that gets him out of situations.
No, no. I love the list threads also. I just thought I’d throw one out there that was a bit off the wall. In fact, I have seen most of the suggestions already. :)
Of course you have! Glad you got the Lone Wolf and Cub movies added to the watchlist, though. There's even three seasons of a TV series from 1973, just not starring the great Tomisaburô Wakayama.
And since I can't resist, throwing out Greenaway's The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989), though you've probably seen it.
I have NOT seen or even heard of that one before. I read just a bit about it and stopped so that I won’t know much going in. Bumping it to the top of my list and thank you!
