modern day horror is lacking. i agree with you on horror movies becoming comedies.

The sign of a genre’s peak passing has always been when comedy is added to the formula.

i think you make a good point.

reply

Ha!
Never thought of it this way, maybe you’re right.

Can't agree with you on this one. I love horror and it's my favourite genre. I find horror movies very entertaining,i don't watch them to be scared because to be honest, a lot of them arent scary, they are just so fun to watch.

I agree that horror often fails to evoke fear, but that doesn't mean it fails to horrify. Being horrified and being afraid are not mutually exclusive and I generally think being horrifying is the point over being frightened. And like many here, I also don't need a horror to be scary to enjoy it. Horrors often strip so much away or crank the volume on everything up as far as it can go, which is why so much of horror is camp and over-exaggerated, especially 80s horror - and I love that about it. Because of this quality, horror is one of the most experimental genres, so I could never see it even being in the top 10 of worst film genres, but to each their own.

I was an adult the first time I saw The Ring. It creeped me out then and it still does - it was definitely not just a cheap jump scare type of movie.

In general, some horror movies are good and some not, but usually they are entertaining.

yup , i agree .

The Horror-Comedy genre grew out of most films intending to be horror failing at it .

And the torture porn ? is that even horror in any sense ? its just gore for sick puppies to get off on .

Probably true. I only watched (and liked) a few realistic horror movies. "The Collector" (1965) is the only horror/kidnapping movie that I thought was good. Great premise, but 99% are fucking awful.

This is a really cool movie. Domestic family horror! Nothing supernatural or fake. Very unique movie.
