What were you doing 10 years ago?

I was in middle school

Drinking beer and scratching my nads. Pretty much the same thing I'm doing today.

Moved from New York City to Reno, Nevada August 2013.

That must have been a culture shock.

reply

Nah, I felt at home almost immediately. And at age 54 (I'm now almost 64) I'd seen a bit of the country here and there over the years. Hawaii was more of a culture shock, and even there I wouldn't go so far as to say "shock." Or maybe it was, it's been a while :)

Still in the same place. Regrettably.

Working at the same job Iā€™m at now.

Travelling the world. Miss it, it was a life-changer.

Waiting for a Netflix dvd to arrive in the mail.

Married and working...my boys turned 5, 3, and 1 in 2013. In some ways, I miss them being that little...however, I love that they're older and don't get as sick as much as they did back then.

I really feel like my life (and I) has changed so much since then. Both my parents were alive then...they're both deceased. I've experienced a lot of death the past 7-8 years (both parents, lots of close relatives, friends, former co-workers, my old college roommate, et.al.). My wife and I really hit a rough patch in our marriage several years ago, but we got thru it and we're still married. We've moved since then (I miss our old house, but not the neighborhood). I was really struggling with my golf game and golf swing back then...I feel like I'm a better golfer today, despite being 10 years older. I'm definitely a better guitarist today than I was 10 years ago. I feel like I'm a better person today than what I was 10 years ago...all the trials, hardships, etc., I went thru sucked big-time, but they've made me wiser and more appreciative in the long run.

YOU ARE WAY TOO GENUINE FOR THIS SITE...I APPRECIATE YOU.šŸ™‚

reply

Thank you...that is a very nice thing for you to say and I really appreciate that!

I really love this site. When I joined a few months ago, it was basically because I saw ecarle was posting here (I really loved reading his posts on the old IMDb forums) and wanted to let him know how much I appreciated what he's posted over the years. I didn't expect that I would stick around that long, but I really enjoy and appreciate the knowledge and different tastes (and backgrounds) the members have here regarding movies, music, etc. I've never been a huge moviegoer (and I have pretty specific tastes on what appeals to me movie-wise), but I really marvel at and admire the diverse movie knowledge so many members have here.

I wish I could post more, but I'm a married father of 3 boys and life gets awfully busy at times. But I really enjoy and appreciate everyone that posts here...people have been so nice to me overall, even those that have disagreed with me.

It sounds like you've lived a lifetime during these past 10 years.
I'm sorry for your loss with respect to your parents and friends.

reply

Sorry for your loss, buddy. :(

reply

Thank you both (You and InquiringMind) very much! While it's been a tough stretch of life in a lot of ways, I do appreciate the years I had with them and that I feel like I'm a better person having gone through all this.
