Name a role that made you a fan of an actor/actresses

You might've even liked them before but this particular performance in a show, film or stage play made them one of your favorite entertainers.

There are a lot but here are a few of mine

1. Timothy Olyphant - Justified (2010 TV)

2. Idris Elba - Luther (2010 TV)

3. Sam Rockwell - Seven Psychopaths (2012)

4. Mads Mikkelsen - Hannibal - (2013 TV)

5. Lena Headey - Game of Thrones (2011 TV)

reply

IronMan- Robert Downey Jr.
Pierce Brosnan- James Bond
Chris Hemsworth- James Hunt, crazy right ?
RDJ who had a longer career before the MCU got me with IronMan but Chris Hemsworth first won me over with something totally different.

reply

I think the role that made me a fan of RDJ was either Kiss Kiss Bang Bang or Tropic Thunder

I honestly can't recall but it was around 2009. Just a short while after the first Iron Man

reply

If it’s after The first IronMan then it’s tropic Thunder. because with Kiss kiss bang bang he wasn’t popular yet. And with IronMan he became insanely popular.

reply

No, I meant I watched it after Iron Man. It didn't necessarily come out after It

reply

Ohh okay, sorry I got it wrong.

Chaplin (1992)

reply

Gary Oldman - Leon: The Professional (1994)
Bruce Campbell - Army of Darkness (1992). I saw this one before the first two when I was younger
Tom Hardy - Bronson (2008)
Christina Applegate - Married with Children (1987)
Cate Blanchett - Elizabeth (1998)

And going off of your list I'll say

Timothy Olyphant - Deadwood (2004) but Justified (2010) is my favorite show of all time and I hope the revival is good
Idris Elba - The Wire (2002)
Sam Rockwell - Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002)
Mads Mikkelsen - Casino Royale (2006)
Lena Headey - 300 (2006)

reply

From your list

Gary Oldman - Same

Bruce Campbell - Burn Notice (2007) - Watched The Evil Dead movies & show cause he was so awesome in Burn Notice. Best part of it for me

Tom Hardy - Inception (2010)

Christina Applegate - Samantha Who (2007) - Wasn't familiar with MOST of her work before that. Genuinely funny in that one

Cate Blanchett - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)

reply

Burn Notice (2007) - I would say that's definitely what made me a fan of Jeffrey Donovan

reply

Jeffrey Donovan was pretty darn good in Burn Notice.

I honestly haven't seen him in much since. He was really underused in The 2 Sicario movies, imo

reply

He was great in Season 2 of Fargo as well if you've seen it

reply

I've only seen the first season. The other seasons are still on my watchlist.

reply

With the film Elizabeth I became more a fan of Geoffrey Rush.

He was Really good in it. I loved his character Wallsinham. I loved that character so much that I was so mad it didn’t appear in the Film Mary Queen of Scots with Soairse Ronan and Margot Robbie.

Obviously now portrayed by someone else, but it really bugged me The Mary Queen of Scotts film didn’t include that character sir Francis Wallsinham.

The films Elizabeth and Elizabeth the golden Age made it look like he was a huge influence on her. That he was the one who found out about her cousin trying to dethrone her and he was a big reason why Elizabeth Executed her cousin Mary.

Wallsinham was Elizabeth’s right hand and closest Friend and advisor.

reply

1. James Gandolfini - The Sopranos

3. Jim Carrey - Ace Ventura
4. Alison Brie - Community
5. Joe Pesci - Goodfellas
6. Sylvester Stallone - Rocky

reply

1. Same
2. Zombieland for me
3. Liar Liar & The Truman Show. Saw them around the same time
4. Same
5. Same.

reply

John Goodman - Barton Fink
Sally Hawkins - Blue Jasmine
Ethan Hawke - Gattaca
Tom Hardy - Locke
Melissa McCarthy - Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Charles Durning - The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
Bryan Brown - Two Hands
Claire Danes - Shopgirl
James McAvoy - Split
Jacki Weaver - Animal Kingdom

reply

Same here with Matt Damon. I feel like The Talented Mr Ripley is really underappreciated.

One of my favorite thrillers. Fantastic performance by Damon.

reply

Wuthering Heights and Strange Days - Ralph Fiennes

reply

In Bruges for me.

Same as Colin Farrell.

reply

Robert Pattinson-Good Time (17)

Great movie about a sleazy guy who ruins the lives of everyone he encounters over one long night on the run.

reply

Same here for Good Time. The only non-Twilight role I saw him as was whatever character he was in Remember Me (2010). OK movie.

And Rover (2014) with Guy Pearce
Which I actually liked.

But Good Time was so freaking good. Great performance from Pattinson.

reply

The Lost City of Z
The Rover
The Lighthouse
The Batman
The King
The Devil All The Time…

Jeez is this guy a big talent, many of his big jobs are distinctive performances. Sometimes our Pacinos or DeNiros (two all time legends!) play the same character over and over and that’s fine, I expect they’ll be great but Pattinson really mixes it up, he’s a different guy in a lot of his movies.

For a guy that started out as a glittering vampire Tiger Beat magazine model for little girls he’s become a fine actor. I look to see whatever he’s in, I admire his range.

reply

The guy has one of the most diverse filmographies out there.

Shame how basically every post or comment that mentions him is flooded with people who STILL keep bringing up twilight.

It's been a decade, mate. Move on...

reply

Agreed, he was 🤏 that close to being typecast but his talent was too great to let that happen.

reply

liam neeson - schindler's list

reply

I really gotta scratch that off of my watchlist this year, hopefully.

It's been there for way too long

reply

That was quite a great movie and a very good book as well. Interesting man Herr Schindler was , on the one hand he was an industrial swindler and shameless self promoter but he saved the lives of a thousand people or more. A very good fellow I’d say.

I do watch many films solely because an actor is in the cast, regardless of genre. For example, I’ve seen 34 films with Franco Nero in them since activity searching out his filmography and Street Law really kicked it off. I have many more but these are some good ones off the top of my head.

Sonny Chiba - The Street Fighter (1974)
Tomas Milian - Compañeros (1970)
Barbara Steele - Black Sunday (1960)
Franco Nero - Street Law (1974)
Oliver Reed - The Devils (1971)
Pam Grier - Jackie Brown (1997)
