protagonists you personally found unlikable?

Which protagonists in film or television have you personally found unlikable?

For me, the titular character from Emily the Criminal is one of the most frustrating leads I've seen in a movie in a long time. She's unlikable not only because of her overly dour, overly serious personality toppled with a resting bitch face, but also for how she basically causes the entirety of the film's conflict in the second half due to her own stupidity and negligence. Her backstory of how she has a criminal record because she once physically assaulted her boyfriend in no way helps either (am I honestly supposed to feel sorry for her?).

What's yours?

reply

YEAH SHE REALLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN SMILING AND STRIPPING.

reply

So I guess you like your women bitchy, violent, and with no warmth or sense of humor, right?

reply

I PREFER THEM TO BE HUMAN...FEATURING THE ENTIRE SPECTRUM OF EMOTIONS.

reply

How is walking around with a permanent scowl the full spectrum of emotions?

reply

IN THE FILM YOU MENTIONED...THERE ARE VERY FEW LIGHT HEARTED OR SMILING MOMENTS...SHE WAS A REAL PERSON DEALING WITH REAL SHIT...WHAT YOU WANT DOESN'T EXIST...EXCEPT IN UNREALISTIC FILMS.

reply

Stephen Strange in Multiverse Of Madness Scarlet Witch was more Likeable

reply

I thought he was a mopey, narcissistic dickhead throughout 3/4 of the first movie too. I was confused as to why everyone seemed to like him so much.

I only ever read comics at a surface level, so I wasn't familiar with Dr. Strange at all. Halfway through the first one I was starting to wonder if I was watching a villain origin story.

reply

anakin skywalker. The kid forgivable. He's a kid. George Lucas, not. Hayden Christensen, not.

reply

I don't even blame Hayden.

The dude may not have been the world's greatest actor, but I've seen him be FAR better in other movies. He should have at least been passable as Anakin.

I can only blame the direction. If you can't get even a base level performance out of a decent actor, you are doing something wrong. I'm guessing a lot had to do with editing too.

reply

Yes, Lucas must take the majority of the blame. It was his baby.

reply

The title character from Sailor Moon. She was such a brat, and one of many reasons I didn't take an interest in her show.

reply

TONY FUCKING SOPRANO!!

reply

Wasn’t that the whole point, though?

reply

What do you mean?

reply

Isn’t he supposed to be an unlikable person? He’s a criminal for gods sake.

reply

Unpopular Opinion (maybe, I don't know) but I genuinely couldn't stand Bojack Horseman.

One of the most unlikable protagonist ever put on screen for me. He ruined everything.

Everyone was better off without him. I genuinely can't remember the last time I disliked a protagonist like this

reply

Jessica Jones. I love her but she acts like a total bitch when anyone shows her kindness.

reply

Her sister was worse in my opinion. She started as a likable character but with each new season, she turned into the absolute worst.

Like in season 3, she was so intolerable.

reply

You're right! I forgot about that, although she wasn't technically the protagonist.

reply

Ferris Bueller.
