protagonists you personally found unlikable?

Which protagonists in film or television have you personally found unlikable?

For me, the titular character from Emily the Criminal is one of the most frustrating leads I've seen in a movie in a long time. She's unlikable not only because of her overly dour, overly serious personality toppled with a resting bitch face, but also for how she basically causes the entirety of the film's conflict in the second half due to her own stupidity and negligence. Her backstory of how she has a criminal record because she once physically assaulted her boyfriend in no way helps either (am I honestly supposed to feel sorry for her?).

What's yours?

Ethan Hawke's character in Reality Bites was pretty insufferable.

Neil Perry in Dead Poets Society. The kid wants to be an actor, I get it but can't he just toe the line a couple more years and when he graduates go on to do what he wants?

Suicide seemed a rather extreme option. And yes, I know he was being sent to military school but that was only because he went against his father in the first place.

He's one of those characters that you wish would die a horrible, agonising death. 😆

Hawkeye Pierce, M*A*S*H (TV show). The M*A*S*H forum has a couple threads that go on and on about how much Hawkeye and (more to the point) Alan Alda is an asshat. Alda couldn't get enough of the spotlight and because of that we had His Holiness of the 4077 overshadowing a lot of potential good character development on the show.
