Yay or nay? I'm not familiar with their work. However, Dave Grohl seems like a cool dude and I liked his work as part of Nirvana. Talented dude for sure.

I like them. They and Queens of the Stone Age are keeping hard rock going.

This is about the American band Foo Fighters, not about Canadian rock band The Band or British band UFO.

Yeah Dave is a talented and productive musician, he's got a lot of other stuff besides Nirvana and FF, such as Them Crooked Vultures, Probot, and of course the role of Beelzeboss in Tenacious D.
I'd say you should get familiar with the Foos' work:
their records from the 90s, if you like grunge
2000s, if you like alternative
and 2010s, if you like classic rock.
