I'm home with a broken leg, and with nothing better to do but catch up on my online continuing education, and watch free movies on youtube!
I just saw "Garden of Evil" on the recommendation of someone here, anyone got some good movies to recommend, particularly free musicals or comedies from the Studio Era?
I mentioned this one in a thread last week -- Executive Action, a 1973 conspiracy movie about the JFK assassination. Sort of a much less hysterical, more matter-of-fact version of JFK. The story is told from the conspirators' point of view. Stars Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, and Will Geer. Not on YouTube but Dailymotion, which is also free: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3uhs0j
This tells me the video is blocked on my device by the owner. I've not seen that message before. I typed it in on the search and i can only view a trailer. I looked on linkedfilm and it said the same thing. Obviously banned from streaming here π€·ββοΈ
My information is out of date. I used to use AceVPN, including to watch British coverage of the 2012 London Olympics along with the US coverage. I was happy with it, but when I upgraded my PC from XP to Windows 7 I had all sorts of problems getting it to work. I was paying $15/month for unlimited data use, and between the problems and the fact that watching TV over a VPN is like taking a flying leap back in time -- live TV only, no recording of programs, no pausing, rewinding, etc -- I decided it wasn't worth it. That was several years ago. Their service was good with XP, and I'm guessing that they've straightened out the other problems. There are probably better VPNs out there and online reviews, but I'd at least give them a look.
Really? What was the problem the first time you tried it?'
I started to watch the movie again and discovered something distressing. The reason it's free is because Dailymotion sticks advertisements in. I use Firefox and its "Video Download Helper" plugin to grab videos off the Internet that I want to save, and I did so here. I've now got an MP4 of the movie, without advertisements, which I'll watch with VLC. If you've got some sort of video downloading software you might want to do the same thing.
There's so many hidden gems on YouTube. I love it.
When I'm looking I just search for "70s TV thrillers" for example, and a huge list pops up. Sadly I've seen them all now and I want more!
But yeah, just search the genre and decade and you'll definitely find something you like.
One thing I did discover is that if you search a film it may not show up but when you go into one of the collections it will be there with a random title.
The best gangster / drama film , with a dash of comedy
This isnt some old out of copyright stuff , this is A list
this is better than
Heat , Goodfellas , all them A list crime films ...
not really a classic, but 'the noah' is a cool, weird obscure film that i think i discovered after it was recommended on a thread very much like this on this site a few years back.
