Things you were disappointed to discover?

For me, I was disappointed to discover that so many cool songs were ripping off beats/chords from older stuff (especially the 1970s). I've learned to make peace with it - especially if they're not ripping off the song entirely.

^ this.
although on the other hand if i hear a cool sample and can trace to the original that i NEVER would've discovered..

well i count it as a win!

The refrigerator light doesn't stay on when you close the door.

And it's not because a little man lives in there that turns it off.

Dammit! Now I have more research to do!!

when i was probably turning 4 or so, was disappointed to discover that the characters at disneyland (which i never went to despite promises, another disappointment) were characters, not true-blue 2D cartoons.

i must have had that idea that there was an alternative cartoon universe we could somehow access.

but in one big compensation, at the Police Circus in St Louis, Moe Howard of the 3 Stooges looked me right in the eye and gave me the sweetest smile :)

OP, I know how you feel. I was so disappointed when I learned that The Prodigy had exclusively used samples to create their songs. I really thought they were an acoustic band that had maybe added some polish in post-production; had no idea that every song was a mixture of samples!

Yeah I play guitar and before I started learning all the sounds I was hearing were like magic. It's kind of crushing to learn they are just the same chords and notes.

Well music has been one big ripoff post '70s, with rare exception. I prefer the '60s, and that music was ripped off even more. I'm disappointed to discover so many younger people didn't know the music is just a ripoff, so those ripoff artists are given respect they don't deserve!
