Things you were disappointed to discover?

For me, I was disappointed to discover that so many cool songs were ripping off beats/chords from older stuff (especially the 1970s). I've learned to make peace with it - especially if they're not ripping off the song entirely.

About 3 years ago I found out that they filmed Seinfeld in California. After watching it after all these years, it blew my mind.

reply

Oh I read that too. Jerry talked about driving his classic car at high speeds to get there..:)

reply

My view of the show was shattered. They did a good job hiding it though.

He's not Ny..More people should be offended by this.

Usually shows like that will film establishing outdoor shots on location and all the interior scenes at the studio. On Always Sunny they will have establishing shots with the main actors actually in Philadelphia. I remember Miami Vice being actually being filmed in Miami and resisting an effort by either the network or studio to move production to LA to save money. A good TV show that was actually filmed on location in several different parts of the US was the 60s show Route 66. Although they didn’t really stay on Route 66.

Ever listen to the lyrics of the song “I’m an Adult Now” by The Pursuit of Happiness?

I was disapointed to find out you can get a degree in any bullshit subject you want and it will command more respect than a 'diploma' in a real hard science subject like mechanincal engineering.

reply

You're doing it wrong if you got a degree to gain respect.

reply

I mean respect as in "how suitable you are to be employed" , as opposed to the compton definition

I , stupidly , imagined that studying a technical subject that is not only incredibly difficult but also vital to modern civilisation might result in a high paying job , or even a 'career'

Instead you get wankers with a degree in smelling their own farts getting jobs on the basis that "Oh the subject isnt important, any degree means you know how to manage your time , study on your own , work to a deadline..." and other bollocks.

I totally disagree with that theory if you havent established ,after spending your whole childhood at school, wehter you "know how to study " , why waste eveyones time and money doing fuck all for a further 5 years.

reply

But you can get bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering

reply

Thats true , i guess i wasnt motivated or clever enough for the final sprint to the Degree level.

That would just make it even more hurtful to hear some schmuck say
"Oh the subject isnt important, any degree means you know how to manage your time , study on your own , work to a deadline..." and other bollocks.

Fuck off ! The maths alone in the first year of an engineering degree is "harder" than someone with a degree in
Culinary arts
Fashion design
Advertising
philosophy
....could achieve in a lifetime as opposed to their subject where there are pretty much "no wrong answers"

I'm not bitter! honest!

reply

Mechies make more money than most of the majors, good steady money too even with a tech school diploma. A good chef can rake it in but only the best ones. Advertising seems like an early burn out career. Fashion is only a sure thing if your last name is McCartney, otherwise you’re a glorified seamstress. Philosophy? Who pays anyone for that, besides academia?

reply

They get the to "manage" the mechie on the basis that "Oh the subject isnt important, any degree means ... blah blah

..and then get paid more for *watching* the Mechie do the incredibly skilled difficult work

[ my new motto :) ]

i'm going to venture a guess that philosophy, however silly, isn't easy - but it is true that non-quantitative types can get by there. though logics can get fairly mathy.

reply

that people have different opinions. that there were democrats and republicans was one of the first i discovered as a kid during the 1988 elections that disappointed me

When I was 8 years old I was looking forward to the movie Frogs (1972). I was very disappointed that there were no giant frogs in the movie like the one on the movie poster.

@TommyJarvis82, man I loved Led Zeppelin as a teenager. I found out a few years ago they ripped off a ton of their hit stuff. They got sued and everything. You can see comparisons on YouTube.
