Depends on which dog food.

If you make it homemade, it tastes like unsalted/unseasoned chicken or ground turkey mixed with chopped dried venison or salmon mixed with plain white rice, peas and carrots

When I was 8, my mother got sick and I had to go to a foster home for 3 months because there were no relatives to care for me. It was a group home, with 3 of their own children and about 7 of us foster kids, all boys age 7 to 10. Treated us like prisoners. One day they served this big bowl of what I thought was hamburger casserole to us foster kids. After I finished, the 13 year old daughter of the family asked me how I liked the food. I said it was OK. She held up an empty can of beef Alpo dog food and said they used that instead of hamburger for the foster kids. Cooked, I had no idea it wasn't cheap hamburger.
