[EDIT] Thanks everyone - over 200 suggestions for child friendly films.

Since lockdown started my daughter (nearly 6) and I have waded through: -
8 Harry Potter films
3 Narnia films
3 Wizard of Oz films
2 Mary Poppins films
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Plus, countless Disney cartoons

Any suggestions? Thanks everyone.

Pollyanna, Annie (82), The Parent Trap, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

reply

Pre lockdown she went to Swish Of The Curtain, which is like a stage school, so she loves musicals and knows the tunes from Annie, so great suggestions, thanks.

Musicals:

Singing in the Rain - 1952

The King and I -1956

My Fair Lady - 1964

The Sound of Music - 1965

reply

All favourites of mine, so keen to pass them on to the next generation. 👍

Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)
Ernest & Celestine (2012

reply

i would second both of those for sure.

reply

I haven’t seen either - I’ll add them to the list, thanks.

Since she's five going on six, I'm thinking of what my granddaughters like (besides the obvious Frozen, etc.):
Babe (1995)
Homeward Bound (1993) a family favorite
Clifford the Big Red Dog cartoons (check YouTube)
Charlie Brown/Peanuts Gang/Snoopy various cartoons
The Land Before Time (1988, if she likes dinosaurs)
Curious George cartoons (YouTube)
The Muppet Show (YouTube)

reply

All good suggestions - we watched The Muppet Movie (2011) the other day, which she liked, so there’s a fair few more to see - thanks.

The Princess Bride
Stardust
Matilda
The Secret Garden
Fantasia
Gremlins
Willow

reply

I would not recommend “Gremlins” to a child this young. The following is the Parent’s Guide:

Thanks for the heads up.

Bambi 1942

I’ve introduced her to all the classic Disney animated films.

Dragonheart-1996 The soundtrack is awesome

Over the Hedge-2006 I purchased this one and watched it at least 20 times! I also purchased the talking Hammy stuffed squirrel.

Alvin And The Chipmunks-2007 I purchased this also and have watched it at least 15 times.

reply

Dragonheart does have such a great soundtrack! I remember Elvis Stokjo (canadian figure skater in the 90s) used it for one of his programs.

I've been putting together music triva for my saturday zoom parties and this week "To the Stars" is in the score quiz. ❤❤

I cry every time I watch Dragonheart!😭 I’ve purchased the soundtracks of two movies before seeing movies...this was the 1st one...Titanic was the 2nd

I was looking at the movie section in Walmart when my ears caught the Dragonheart theme playing on the tvs. I walked over to look at & listen to the music. To hear all of those tvs playing the theme made me gasp! I immediately purchased the soundtrack and later purchased the movie for my daughter who dearly loved the movie. She cried when I gave it to her.

Great suggestions, thanks.

The exorcist.

reply

Yeah...right! Just what a “nearly 6 yr old” kid needs to see! 🙇🏼‍♀️

reply

KNISH! *wags finger*

reply

Cruel

reply

What's the matter with you, Knish? He said age 6. That's a movie for 10-year-olds.

reply

I wouldn’t even let a 10 year old see the Exorcist! The profanity is severe! Pure filth!

I was joking.

Maybe next year, lol.

National Velvet-1944. Made Elizabeth Taylor a star

ET- 1982

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory- 1971 (not the Johnny Depp remake)

Toy Story- all 4

reply

How could I forget ET - thanks for the reminder.

reply

kspkap mentions National Velvet, and he's right it's a great movie for a young girl. Maybe not six, you decide, but it is about a young girl trying to become her dream. It's real good, especially if your daughter likes horses.

reply

Yes, I remember National Velvet - classic! Good shout.

Btw, kspkap (or Kissy as I call her) is female.

reply

Both my kids hated ET. Tread carefully with that one.
How about Mulan, 1998?

reply

All I can do is give a go. As for Mulan, we’ve done Disney to the max.
