Why Don't You Watch MORE Older Movies?

On every movie board, I keep seeing these awful scores (their score AND IMDB scores)… Why not check out movies from the 1930-70s, and not just the popular stuff. Check out movies from ALL over the world. If you see a movie you love, watch everything by that director.

If you compare 1980-2020 to 1939-1979, it's NO contest.. Even young people know this, and they barely understand the historical references, but it still tickles their soul.

I might watch an older movie if it's in color. I don't like black & white picture.

I just saw This Island Earth (1955) Bluray and the Technicolors™ look real nice. The story is totally silly but in a good way. No wonder it was used in Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie.

Aggh! I can’t believe you lumped the 80’s in with present day movies.

I love older movies and detest digital, CGI and all the political correctness that newer movies are saturated with. I feel like there is only so much time to commit to watching movies, so why waste it on things I’m not into. My bell curve of favorite films peaks in the late 70’s to early 80’s. If you made a list of big hit movies from the past 20 years I’m sure I’ve only seen a handful.

I find genres that I like and try watch everything I can within those genres. I also pick actors or directors from those genres and look up their filmographies for finding movies I’m interested in. Currently I’m focusing on Spaghetti Westerns, Giallo, Poliziotteschi / Eurocrime, Horror and most things B / Obscure. In fact, if something is subtitled it’s a plus in my book.

So I really watch very few things that most people consider popular.

I think the 80s was the biggest drop-off, not only for movies, but music, too. I don't like PC, CGI (or any other acronyms :)

When I was 17, I would rent movies without even looking at the description. Just random stuff. I would only look at the side box just to make sure I didn't rent it before. I found duds and great stuff, and a few years later, noticed that my favorites were older movies, so I went in that direction more and more.

When I think I've "seen them all", I'll go to sites like this, or check out IMDB lists from those who liked similar movies, and expand my watchlist (1,300 now), and like a buffet, I'll try one, and if I'm not feeling it, I go to the next one. Some movies have 100 votes on IMDB. Not popular, but some have been great.

I started this post not for me, but hoping others would find great movies and be a little more happier, and find many more paths.

I've seen loads movies from 1930-1979. At this point there aren't many I'm aware of that I think I'd enjoy that I haven't already seen. That's why.

I mostly enjoy 70s to present era movies, the real standouts being 70s-late 80s, THAT was a golden age for horrors both silly and perfect, I like horror above all other genres

The acting is a bit too mannered and corny in the much older movies I've seen plus in the really old 'talkies' it feels like everyone is learning to speak and it's way to exaggerated for my liking

Plus I tend to like female nudity and violence in my movies so post 60s for me
