It's lonely here.
Nobody talks to me on this site.
Wonder how many lurkers there are thinking the same thing.

I'm sure people talk to you Catsidhe, you've got a post count of 600 right now.
shareI had a pun off with MMC2, which probably took care of half that count. The rest is bit like tumbleweed city. π
I guess because I'm not American so I can't really post in the bustling boards, and posting in individual movie boards often IS tumbleweed city.
I find myself mostly lurking. π
I'm not American either and so don't worry about it.
Just take a stab at a topic in GD, maybe start a game or tell a joke (Attacking gypsies seems to be popular just now) and get into the groove.
It's most nice people around here and limp wristed trolls, pleasant enough!
LOL it definitely can be if you want to chat on movie and TV boards. About half of my posts or comments have gone unanswered in the year and a half I've been here, or have garnered brief responses after a long period of time. Many just want to talk about Trump or socialize on GD.
shareHa! Snap. Pretty much answered in a similar way.
It just feels like General Discussion is for the people who already kind of know each other and it's a set circle.
Yeah it does feel that way and it contributes to various film and TV boards being graveyards. Frankly I don't care about being unpopular -but a lot of contributions to GD come off as bored spam really. And the continued celebrations of X amount of posts is annoying.
shareI go to GD when it's dead on films I feel like talking about, and I wouldn't mind hanging out and then realise I can't just slip in.
shareHow do you mean by not slipping in? What do you tend to post? It does feel cliquish but people here are generally responsive on GD. Just join in or post an interesting question.
shareAlthough even GD does seem unusually dead at the moment.
shareAs in, joining in from out of the blue. Could be my style of posting doesn't require reply, so it's logical that my contribution is more in the standalone comment department. πͺ
I'll give it another bash.
I think another issue is the sheer amount of posts in a day and users not being bothered to look at them all. So don't take it personal.
shareAlso that now trending isn't longer. It's hard for people to see what's being discussed other than President Trump or a comic book movie, so unless they're specifically thinking about that movie/series, whatever post is made on those boards are a bit lost.
Edit: Never mind, just noticed the "Latest Posts" section. I've only been here a year and a half... *facepalm* π π π
You're right there. It might help if the Trending banner with pictures was longer. Oh how I'm so sick of seeing traffic directed towards Trump's orange mug - as I've complained about many times :p
shareI feel the same way, although I understand people's need to talk about him. It doesn't interest me, but I wouldn't rob anyone of their fun, and it's wild in there.
I'm not sure how many moviechatters would like the kind of movies I like but I have seen one or two appear.
I always save THAT link as a bookmark/icon on the browser. And with every other site.
I just noticed I'm also at 600+ posts :)
What kind of movies do you you like Cat?
shareUsually...old Italian gore, horror - especially 80s slashers and...well...anything that features an exploding head. That's the benchmark for a shit movie's saving grace, pretty much.
And off-kilter stuff.
I also often go through moods in which I can only watch a particular genre.
ALSO, wtf, my notifications suddenly blew up. Awesome. I'll get to everyone, but since there's no way to keep track of what you've answered here or not, I'll have to fucking COUNT.
And I've had wine, so...

Should be easy enough to ignore.
I ignore the Psycho thread because I thinks it's some sort of launching point for other conversations, and I couldn't figure out what they wanted. Feels like it's, like catsidhe says, meant for a certain group (clique) to stay in touch. Nothing wrong with that, but they aren't talking about the movie Psycho, unless I'm utterly wrong.
I've noticed some of the socialization that goes on in GD flies right over my head.
No offense meant, but it looks like people who think they are terribly clever, and the more oblique the response, the more it's appreciated. I don't get it.
It's like any inner circle. Some jokes are in-house. I guess in a clumsy way I was asking to break into the circle.

Hello there.
shareHi! Nice name. π
shareThanks.
shareThis guy is a gem! Funny as hell and a damn good posterπ
shareMy favourite brand of tea is called Barry's. This is a tea so important, I order it from Ireland as it's unavailable in my country. Needless to say, I take that as a sign.
Caffeine, and gem moviechat posters are serious business.

You're my boy blue! he is all of our boy...yours too cats! MJF is the man...popular...friendly and wise! NOT old...just wiseπ
shareI get a bit nichy myself, like, specific types of horror, and Irish film. For some weird reason, I seem to watch every Irish movie that gets released. As soon as you said "Bad Day..." I thought of "Bad Day for the Cut".
I used to work in a video store for a few years. One with a really good selection of movies and clients that cisited the "recommended" wall. Strange part of the job was sort of...taking one for the team, since we all had our areas of nerd, and I was the only woman, I'd do strange things, like...watch every period drama there was (if you'll pardon the pun) just so I could recomment according to otherpeoples' tastes.
That's a bit of skill. Taking yourself outside yourself and imagine what you'd like if you liked...(and it could be anything...Adam Sandler movies...).
I haven't seen that movie you mentioned, but I'll give it a shot. I like unexpected movies, and I don't mind subtitles.
You sound like an interesting person. I am American and tend to enjoy older films -- not exclusively, but they are easier to connect with than all this horror and sci-fi and such stuff that seems to be popular these days. I like a good drama or a realistic thriller or thoughtful comedy, but sometimes I'm sure I need to break out of my normal habits and try something newer.
Any way, any time you care to chat, don't be shy. I'm around.
Sometimes I go through phases of wanting to see films from specific eras, like the 70's and the it's anything from The Conversation, to The Holy Mountain and it's ilk.
I also love revenge movies.
And thank you! I'll take you up on that. I take it that chat side is in GD. Or post stalking. π
Not sure how it would work, other than simply continuing to post to one another, like here or somewhere else.
I'm usually not part of a particular circle on MC. MissMargo is the only other person I seem to understand a little bit, other than some churlish Republicans I'm better off avoiding. But if you genuinely felt lonesome here, I don't mind keeping up with whatever's on your mind. We may not have much in common, frankly, but at one time I worked in a record store that also rented Vids, and video stores were some of my favorite places until they all went away.
Speaking of Period Pieces, I have a fondness for the Emma Thompson Sense And Sensibility. Familiar? I commented or at least read much of the thread recently. People think the women are too obsessed with finding a man while others point out that was really the only way for a woman to survive in that culture. If your family wasn't rich, you had to find a man who would provide for you. I'm sure Jane Austen was smart enough to understand what she was trying to represent at the time, and the screenplay did not try to update the story.
Any way -- carry on !
OH yeah, saw that, but what I mean by taking one for the team is...I watched entire slews of BBC made for TV, released to DVD dramas. π
π
π
π
The REAL hit for the team of guys whose only loves were Haneke and Egoyan. Maybe a little Fatih Akim.
HA! Jane Austen is kind of a hate of mine. A pet one, though, as I'm more a BrontΓ« bitch, I always thought Jane Austen's like the Iron Maiden of her time. Wrote the same album for 20 years...
Hahaha. I figured we might not have a lot in common. I'm very aware of Iron Maiden, but I can barely remember their Avatar's moniker, let alone comment on their output. Not much of a metal-head, although I did, for nostalgia reasons, buy Black Sabbath Vol. 4 recently. No regrets. My fave song off it is Supernaut.
And while I try to be a literary type, I have to admit the Bronte's and Austen aren't things I've actually visited, only picked up by "osmosis." Often I like to read About books and music more than I want to actually read and listen to them (although I do plenty of both, just not high-volume).
Iron Maiden ... heheheh.
Nowadays I just read Batman graphic novels and books written by stunt men. π
Love old Black Sabbath, but I listen to too many genres of music to call myself a member of any one faction.
Yeah, I'm all over the map when it comes to music, except the more current it is the less likely I'm familiar with it.
But as far as Thriller's go, I stumbled on a movie called Don't Breathe. Definitely derivative of Silence Of The Lambs, but very effective with a no-name cast. That it's set in Detroit (my home area) slightly adds to the attraction, except they all want to leave, iirc. Also reminiscent of Panic Room.
I've seen that one too. It wasn't too shabby!
Sometimes I miss 80-90's thrillers, as they don't really make them like that anymore.

OH MY GOD, you're the only person I've ever met online who even KNOWS The Secret of Roan Inish! I took the trouble of buying that on ebay. HAD to have it after seeing it in an art theater many years ago, when I was part of an Irish trad music group. It was something we all went to watch together, and we recognised a few of the tunes.
share[deleted]
I've sacked tiny towns in Ireland. I give it two thumbs up. In fact, the only country to not only truly accept me, but want to join in my madness.
I've seen so many films set in Ireland and visit it myself so often I don't need to torture myself with a musical. I gave up on that genre long ago. It's a dead horse for me.
I saw TSORI a long time ago, but I've pretty much forgotten it. Great title.
shareIf you don't mind me butting in, The Commitments is a great film.
I thought there is a movie I think called The Snapper with Colm Meany, but I'm not seeing it in IMDb. Very funny if you don't mind the subject material. Comfort and Joy I believe was by the same director.
There's another Irish film (might be British) about a young kid who develops a crush on a girl. I know that's not much to go on, but it has a simple title, I'm thinking Gregory's Girl?
Then there is some other off-beat film where a small group of friends steal a bunch of toilets thinking it'll be easy money, haha.
My apologies if I get British films and Irish films confused. It's mostly about the accents.

I did a little research, and they are a combination of Alan Parker, Stephen Frears, and Bill Forsyth films.
All 80s stuff from the Isles.

It's lonely everywhere... Even when you're not alone. There's not enough soul nutrition. I can't imagine what people talk about. Do people still talk face to face?
shareMostly at work or school it seems. Social media has become a substitute for a lot of interaction - even for phone calls.
A plenthora of studies have shown that more people, espeically the young, are feeling lonely.
Ah but you know me from another place. I'm certainly not lonely there. *smooch*
Yes, face to face I can't get rid of them.

It can be. I work nights a lot and often can't sleep. Sometimes around 2am, you could hear a pin drop in this joint.
I've had some lovely conversations with quite a few users though. :) I'm sure you will too!
I HAVE A CRUSH ON LTEC, before I found out she was a she. I thought she may be a he in which case OH MY GOD!
