If you read the script, it will piss you off even more. Test audiences ruined the movie because by changing the ending, they had to go back and cut so many other scenes out of the story since they couldn't reshoot anything else.
I read the script recently and it's interesting because there's a lot of content that was cut from the film and NOT included as deleted scenes on the dvd.
Almost all of it involved Susan as after the filmmakers decided to reshoot the ending, they went back and practically eliminated every scene and dialogue that humanized her so you'd feel less sympathetic. Since they didn't have the time and budget to reshoot all of her scenes, they axed them instead which kind of ruined the film because there was so much more depth to Susan's character and personality than the bland and uninteresting version we saw in the final cut. You guys honestly wouldn't believe how much they cut. She was practically the main character and this was her story.
But back on topic, remember when Carter looks out and notices the fences are sinking toward the end? In that scene, Susan gives a chilling monologue about how the Gen 2 absolutely cannot escape. She talks about the early stages to how it will eventually take over the ocean. It was pretty interesting. In fact, you can youtube one of the TV spots and find one of the lines "the oceans will be theirs" from this monologue is featured in it. But of course, it wasn't featured on the dvd.
Only one week in Imax theaters hurt the numbers as well.
I'm curious though: whose bright idea was it to release the movie A WEEK BEFORE a blockbuster Nolan movie???
Higher than I would have expected.
She ruined the last Bond film too...
