You are right. I would have left the original story alone, ended however it had. I don't understand why the need to recast people. If the actors aren't dead, won't they want to be in the new movie? If they don't, just don't include their character. Build a movie around those that want to be in it. The main leads could have been just cameos (Neo/Trinity), while the movie itself could have shown an other side of the old stories.
This is a new world, a new universe, new matrix, new laws. It's acceptable, but the new rules were all over the place. The originals showed a greater barrier for entry/exit, for sure, and that added to the depressing "stuck in the matrix" vibe. Well not anymore.

Original - max points, 2&3: 7/10, this one 6/10. My ratings start from 5, and I could only give 1 point for the entertainment value, as I was entertained, nothing more. I couldn't give points for visuals, cast, or story. Visuals-wise, the original had similar effects, I expect more in 2021, now it's nothing special, nothing we haven't seen yet. For a Matrix to have a +1 on the visuals side, I'd need it to show something new. Cast is hilariously wtf, I couldn't decide if this was meant to be serious or a parody. The supporting cast looked like they were from an average B-movie. Storywise, just meh. This did not need to be done, but at least they weren't trying to take themselves too seriously. But contained nothing that would urge me to ponder/think and remember later.
I would have guessed the big fiery explosion immediately invalidated the loop and there would be no need for him to notice it via the glitch. He was watching the TV, even if helicopters were not allowed in the airspace, I find it weird that the TV would not mention a giant fireball, hinting that the bus was done... :D
Also there was something wrong with the mastering. Ok it was made for the cinema, but the center (voice) was so quitet compared to the explosions and music I had to adjust the volume all the time to keep things low.
The Greatest Showman is the go-to movie if you are interested in seeing her.
Problably as I had no earthly idea what was going on...
Is that a thing now? Swapping gender in the womb? WTF
I have no previous knowledge, no idea if it was a game or a book first, and also didn't understand much of the story - much like a history movie. I have no idea who is who but the visuals were nice.
