This new one seems to have changed the rules for how characters can exit the Matrix. The previous films required characters to find ringing landline phones in order to escape, but this movie seems to make it as if they can exit whenever or possibly something with the mirrors? Maybe the technology has advanced in the 60 years since the events of the previous film.

This is a new world, a new universe, new matrix, new laws. It's acceptable, but the new rules were all over the place. The originals showed a greater barrier for entry/exit, for sure, and that added to the depressing "stuck in the matrix" vibe. Well not anymore.
