For those that have seen it - necessary to read book(s) to enjoy movie?
Is the movie enjoyable and able to be followed for a Dune novice?

shareYou don't need to read the books to enjoy it.
I saw the original film 20 or so years ago and remembered practically nothing and haven't read the books, but enjoyed this. Afterwards I re-watched the 84 version which lays out the premise much better, but not even close to being as good of a film, although it has some great moments. I would recommend watching the first 10 to 15 minutes of the 84 version or read the first paragraph of the wiki page and then watch the 2021 version so you have some background which will be helpful. But, even if you do none of that and still watch the 2021 version, it's enjoyable.
I think the answer is : it's nice to have watched the movie(both parts) in order to better follow the book plot.
