I thought the same thing. It made no sense and Reyes, at that point, would have no reason to suspect the Americans and had to know they were (pretending) to rescue her and return her to Mexico.
It was difficult making sense of the different Mexican police, federal, state, local, whatever ? The police that come upon the aftermath of the kidnapping gun down Reyes men who picked up his daughter every day from school. So were those police beholden to the other cartel ?

Field of Dreams is my all-time #1 movie and I was born in the late 50's, so I am no yuppie.
I love this movie because for me, it addresses the meaning of our lives, our connection to each other, in this life and beyond and the journey of our souls through the experiences in our lives.
It's a very comforting movie as well, showing us that we have continuous opportunities to make things right.

sure ................... and let's defund Police Departments as well. Who needs these institutions to deal with the enemies of civilized society who roam our streets ? Looks like the Seattle experiment of CHAZ is really working well, as long as you don't mind being beaten, robbed or raped within the confines of its walled off street borders.
The reason blacks make up such a high percentage of America's prison populations is because they commit the most crime, sorry to say.
The only suggestion I would make for our justice system is to lighten sentences for non-violent offenders and to further segregate populations within our prisons in order to group and protect non-violent and less-hardened inmates.
Did Rocco murder the prostitute while Geary was passed out in order to frame him and bring him under the Corleone's control? I got that sense from the shot of Rocco in the background of that scene and Tom emphasizing to Geary that the girl had no family and would not be missed and that the Corleone's would clean up the entire situation for the Senator.
Coppola talked at length about his "guilt" for making the Corleones such sympathetic characters in Godfather 1. (Stupid on his part I would say, but feeling guilty about success seems to be quite popular in this country anymore).
Thus, he made a point of making the Corleones (thru Michael) as dark and depressing as he could because, after all, they were a murdering crime family. So, he shows Michael all alone and very unhappy at the end of Godfather 2.
