Probably. I think I'd be the same. Never Too Much is an absolute classic and I know So Amazing from some Now compilation when I was a kid. After that... Although, I was surprised to learn last night that he was also singer in Chic. I guess if you can imagine some part of your brain having cells in a certain formation equating to a hard disk's memory; and memories themselves being equivalent to rows of binary 0s and 1s, that our mind's "software" reassembles whenever we want to access them. Then, if you can buy the transporter given "science" of being able to dissemble then reassemble our physical structure exactly at a molecular level, it still works out as believable that our memories could be preserved. Weird. Struggled to find any info on this after reading your post. The best I could find was some comment on Amazon (for one of the box sets) saying it was shown on some ITV regions. So maybe mine just never had it or maybe it did just pass me by... I genuinely pity you for not at least knowing Never Too Much. Here:- https://youtu.be/pNj9bXKGOiI?si=iaBd8YnhSnp4nqmV I don't really disagree with what you said there. It really depends upon the circumstances and where you were in relation to the wildfires hitting the city. Like your picture there, probably no chance. But like the videos I've linked to, the embers are more manageable. And also other factors, like if the wind speed dropped. But as per my previous post, if you're not there, 0% chance you're stopping something which has dropped on your roof and burned through...
It's like they're trying to play tricks to get me to pay a tip...
Yeah, exactly that. It's weird because my brain always takes a second or two to shift into gear and grasp what's going on. It like... What... hang on a minute, they're asking for a tip for passing me the cup from the machine to where I'm standing about three feet away! It's not a case of sprinkling the house in advance or continuously. It's about spraying the embers when they land on the roof... Here's the math:- Abandon your property and 100% chance even one ember landing on the roof could burn it down. Stay there and spray five / ten / whatever number of embers actually fall on your roof then < 100% chance your house burns down... These guys obviously chose the latter odds. You don't seem to be grasping how these fires spread. But they're not trying to use the hose to put out the massive fire next door. They're using it to stop these little embers taking hold on their roof shingles and causing their house to burn down as well. That's basically how these guys have saved their houses. (Agreed re the extinguisher though, I was just referencing the hose video) I'm not sure whether surviving trees / bushes really tell any story. The video on this link is interesting as well:- https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-01-08/night-of-terror-in-altadena House next door in the process of burning to the ground. Theirs is going to be fine. Plenty of untouched big trees out front and untouched shrubs between the two houses themselves. Like I said before though, it's really just horses for courses and making a judgement call. I saw and replied to his thread reposting that. But yeah, horses for courses... The guy in the video talks about watching the embers and spraying where they landed. That's basically how his house didn't burn down.
There are other not burnt houses in the middle of destructed ones...
Makes no sense - There aren't other houses in the middle of other houses, destructed or not... Not sure what you're trying to say here. Also, not true - saw some German dude with his kids talking about how they hosed down there's and neighbouring houses with a hose drawing water from their pool. Check out James Wood's video here:- https://youtu.be/lxCKUgjRUWo?si=JX7_5Z8f2LCMzZ3N Some houses fine, others knackered... You really, genuinely think this is some faked story? 🫤 Leia never said anything either way really when Luke told her who he was. Are you talking Disney canon here? Actually, I wonder if what we're talking about - getting a takeaway coffee - would be considered a standard tipping thing in America... I'm guessing it probably still is. Conversely though, if I'm sitting down a cafe with someone else having a coffee and a sandwich or cake say, I'll definitely leave a small tip if there's a jar at the til. No, that's the funny thing - I don't use the chains either if I can avoid them. Just little local coffee shops. Usually with those little white machines (apple pay maybe?). It's bad enough that a coffee seems to be creeping up nearer to £4 a cup without being asked to tip on top of that! It's not such a big thing in the UK but one thing I've noticed is more and more coffee shops handing over the card payment machine on an "Add Tip" screen. This is when I'm buying one coffee, to go! There's trees / shrubs in place everywhere. Plenty of conspiracy theories stuff and refutals about that online...
I'll assume he was far from the stronger flames.
Probably. He did talk about watching for embers coming down on the winds and putting them out before they started to catch on the properties and start further fires. The house behind him was destroyed though, so maybe just wind direction. This old guy saved his hose by simply staying and using his garden hose:- https://youtu.be/CCSp5e4HGR0?si=aHFqPcCsiZtxXJSJ Given:-
The 66-year-old's body was found in front of the home, a garden hose still in his hand.
Further questions required... But clearly Darwin award wouldn't be at play simply for staying and trying to save his home as others succeeded. Maybe any foolish actions came further down the line... Eh? There's a direct pan from the house behind his - burnt to the ground! - on to his back yard at ~ the 2:50 mark on there!! 😂 Incredible fake more like... Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) Synecdoche, New York (2008) Should definitely have been on this list too...
