When they were planning to replace TC with Renner as the new lead...

Was it because they thought TC's star power was waning? Base on how much emphasis and marketing TC has done about doing his own stunts, not just in MI, but also Top Gun... How can he be replaced now? It's like taking over a Jackie Chan franchise, but you're not Jackie Chan. How could it be done? I can't see another actor with the same dedication. Even in Ghost Protocol, when TC insisted on climbing the Burj Khalifa, Renner must have thought, "I'm going to replace this guy?" LOL! He will eventually be replaced because he is in his 60's, but I don't see how MI without TC as lead can ever be the same.

reply

They are pushing a woman now as TC replacement. Males are just too toxic, especially white non Jewish males. People don’t want to watch a movie with a white lead!

Wtf are you talking about? Jesus Christ this board is full of complete retard fuck heads

I have vague memories so might be not quite right I guess you could check on wiki . At the time in the mid 00s (after WOTW/MI3 had both underperformed slightly and cruise was in trouble for his beliefs/couch jumping) there was a really old guy in charge of Paramount think his name was Summer Redstone or something and he decided Cruise was becoming toxic or his wife didn't like him or whatever (in addition to the MI3 box office 400m compared to MI2 550m) so decided to fire him from Paramount and there were talks about others replacing him in the MI franchise (Brad Pitt was mentioned) as Cruise made movies for other studios (Lions for Lambs, Knight & Day), then the old guy retired and Cruise came back to Paramount to do MI4 but Renner was there maybe a hold over from when Cruise wasn't part of it? (when Renner was becoming like the next big thing due to Avengers/Bourne) also the team was more prominent than before .. anyway it seems the shock of what happened with being let go, other names being mentioned to take over etc (as well as being ridiculed for his love life/beliefs) spurred Cruise on to really revitalise the franchise and make MI4 the biggest yet with the insane crazy tower stunt etc. and it worked as MI4 nearly doubled MI3s box office

You are right ! Sumner Redstone once said " we cant have goyim actors make more money than the studio " He wanted high earning actors gone.
https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2006/aug/24/cruises-star-will-shine-on-insiders-say/

Studios, seeing profits shrink as box office flattens and DVD sales decline, are trying to dump the long-held economic system in Hollywood that led to stars earning paychecks north of $20 million.

“Studios see things are slowing down and they can no longer afford to make big movies” and agree to lucrative deals for actors where, in some cases, “the star makes more than the studio at the end of the day,” said media analyst Harold Vogel.

reply

They were trying to force Cruise to settle for less money by helping to destroy his bankability. His Scientology craziness didn't help him and Redstone took advantage of it.

reply

With Redstones “media connections” he supported the campaign to smear TC!

reply

Mission Impossible studio is Paramount which was owned by Redstone. He would've started the paycuts with Cruise and continued with less wealthy actors.

reply

Mhhh, but Cruise somehow made peace with Sumner. The movie was dedicated to him and it felt it comes from Cruise, as he was main producer. Sumner is now 3 years dead, I doubt that Paramount/Shari Redstone insisted on dedicating the movie to him.

reply

He’s definitely irreplaceable and the franchise should end when him and McQ decide they’ve had enough. Whether that’s with Dead Reckoning Part Two or another film afterwards I don’t know but I don’t want this franchise carrying on without either of them.

It was like when they made the Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner, I think the studio were hoping to carry on the franchise without Paul Greengrass directing and Matt Damon but it didn’t work.

reply

I don't think they have ever seriously considered replacing Cruise. He owns the production company and calls the shots on who and when casting is done.

reply

Was that ever really considered? I like Renner but he got took out by a snow plow.

reply

That was exactly the point of bringing Brandt in on “Ghost Protocol,” to set him up as Ethan’s replacement.

Ironically, the same movie proved why such a replacement could never be feasible.

Neither Brandt nor Renner can fill the shoes of either Hunt or Cruise.

For all his skills, Brandt’s a company man, a suit. He’ll support his friends, but he won’t independently go rogue or lead an IMF team off the reservation. He’ll follow Ethan Hunt, but he lacks the drive and initiative to do what Ethan would do on his own. This is established pretty clearly in both “Ghost Protocol” and “Rogue Nation.”

And for all his talent, Renner’s simply not insane.

He got run over by his snowplow by accident. Cruise hung outside the Burj Khalifa and a C130 on purpose.

reply

You're mistaking MI with the Bourne franchise.

reply

Nobody has mistaken anything. Studios had big plans for Renner in both Bourne and MI franchises. Neither has panned out.

reply

You think Paramount would do anything without Tom Cruise's approval? Lol. You're underestimating his power in the industry.

reply

I don't know what they would or wouldn't do without TC's approval back in early 2010's. I don't know how this game works in this industry. What is the point you're trying to make? That we're making this story up? For shits and giggles? LOL! I mean, you just posted here, so I assume you have a computer. Which means you can do your own research. The articles and discussions are out there.

reply

My point is that you have no fucking clue on what you're talking about. Do I need to be clearer?

reply

LOL! Have a coke and a smile.

reply

TC is not gonna let anyone replace himself. He pretty much owns the franchise, and he's made it all about him.
