Are there any major movies about Africans that do not involve being or becoming a King?

Shaka Zulu, Coming to America, Black Panther, The Last King of Scotland, The Lion King, The Woman King... So many Kings! Are there no other African stories besides this one?

None of those except The Gods Must Be Crazy actually focus on a black African main character, though.

OK, so other than Roots and The Gods Must Be Crazy, there are few or no movies about black African protagonists that do not involve being or becoming a King. However, movies about white Africans have a much wider range of story possibilities.

Tom Hanks character Captain Phillips is a white American.

Again, you're changing the rules of what you said. You didn't say it had to be the hero, and Djimon is definitely the hero of the movie, not Leo.
