The police side of the story was not necessary.
Why couldn't the movie just be about Earl dealing with the cartel and his family? I looked at my phone everytime the movie went to Pena and Cooper.
This is kind of a cliché now. A main character is doing something bad, and then we apparently need to see the other side of the coin with cops trying to nail him.
Another stupid thing is that very early in the movie, the cartel is aware that cops are looking for a mule driving a black pickup truck, and they never think once about asking Earl to change vehicle.
