Like seriously; what the actual heck? The elves will die if the non-canon made-up tree dies and they need some unspecified yet massive amount of mithril to do what with exactly to it? Are they going to pound mithril nails into it or just like rub it all over the bark, or....? Tolkein must be spinning in his grave. This show is just SUCH total crap, with crap writing, crap casting, crap acting, crap costuming. SO disappointed.

shareI think the Three Rings are going to be made from mithril, and the Three help to preserve the Elven realms. If that tree is in some way tied to Elves' survival, it makes sense they'd use one of the Rings' (canonical) powers to preserve it.
shareLast time I checked, mithril was just a super-rare, pretty metal, similar to silver or platinum, that was usually incorporated into jewelry. In one instance, we see an entire mail shirt made of it, and it's described as "light as a feather, but hard as dragon scales," and it saved Frodo's life in FOTR when the cave troll stabbed him. Such a shirt was said to be worth "a king's ransom."
