So Daniel is the only one allowed to make a living?

This whole business of "you're not going to open up a Cobra Kai school in my town" is nonsense. Johnny should probably sue him or at the very least get a restraining order against LaRusso.

reply

Or maybe give Daniel a fair warning at first.

reply

Its a plot hole for sure

reply

That is not a plot hole.

reply

Well you are the one who started this thread by posting the plot hole, not me

reply

You’re the only one incorrectly calling it a plot hole. It’s illogical, not a plot hole.

reply

Whats the difference between illogical and a plot hole?

reply

Circumference.

reply

What does geometry have to do with this?

reply

A plot hole has a larger circumference than an illogical hole.

Come on guys! It's all ball bearings nowadays!!!

reply

That makes more sense than some of mill's theories.

reply

Characters acting illogically do not constitute a plot hole, unless it breaks with the established personality. There are people in this world who act illogically, and to represent that on screen is not a plot hole.

But Daniel wasn't acting illogically. It's not like he was denying Johnny a livelihood - he merely protested Cobra Kai, which had been blacklisted, let's not forget. One might argue that Daniel has an irrational hatred towards Cobra Kai, but then again, his past experience with Kreese's Cobra Kai gives him plenty of reason to be, shall we say, apprehensive. Either way, it is perfectly plot-consistent, and indeed the starting point of Daniel's character arc in the series.

reply

Well said.

Thanks for clarifying

Lol Shut the frig up about plot holes!

Daniel is an entitled, self-righteous, whiny asshole. Johnny needs to kick his ass.

reply

Johnny's mind doesn't work that way. He believes in confronting his enemies physically. It probably didn't even occur to him to seek out a legal solution to his problems.
As we all saw, Kreese doesn't suffer from this limitation though.

reply

Thus Kreese is the smartest one in the show.

reply

Either that or it's happened to him before. I imagine with the way they depicted Kreese teaching in the original movies, he was probably on the receiving end of more than one lawsuit and has probably had to consult a few lawyers.

At least you got confirmation that it is definitely not a plot hole.

reply

Kreese was more of a hothead in the original movies.

My guess is that he got wiser (while still a sociopath) as he aged and got hammered by life.

reply

That's what I loved about Kreese as he is now

We get to see how he developed his "no mercy" mentality

We get to see how he's been beaten down by life, despite having been a legitimate serviceman and mostly legitimate businessman

He's not just older, but wiser

But in the end, he's still a jerk and bully, now with the experience to be manipulative and play victim when necessary

He basically goaded Mrs. Lorusso into slapping him, and promptly used that incident to make himself look better.

He's more dangerous than ever in many ways

reply

Not saying Daniel is not wrong about many things, but he is right to have many concerns about Cobra Kai.

Cobra Kai had a bad legacy. It gave many children bad ideas about life. Remember what one of Johnny’s friends said. They all took the “no mercy” philosophy to the world with terrible results.

And time proved Daniel right. Johnny pushed the “Strike Hard, Strike First, No Mercy.” concept to those kids until it took a life of its own and even he couldn’t undo the damage.

Cobra Kai brings the worse in people, even Daniel himself as seen in the third film.

reply

I would also add, that if we are talking about stickly legal things, in the real world, Johnny would have been in jail for most of the series.

His B&E in Daniel’s house, plus his A&B there would have had his probation revoked and given more jail time.

His A&B on Anoush in front of multiple witnesses (and probably security cameras), would’ve definitely landed him in jail.

I could go on.

So, yeah, Johnny could not pursue legal means. He had no leg to stand on.

reply

Well, it is true to Daniel's character. He is a self-centered inconsiderate man who thinks his way is the only way. Johnny could sue Daniel for so many things, but probably lacks the will or knowledge to do so.
