Where can this series go?

I think DF killed the franchise for good. Except for Salvation, we've essentially seen the same movie five times now... even a re-boot would be of little interest if it just came back with the same concept again. It's been done to death.

I really think that Salvation offered the best hope for a new series moving forward, completely leaving Schwarzenegger and the whole time-traveling killer robots thing behind...

They need to let it rest. The only two really good films were the first two anyway.

In 10 or more years they can reboot it from the start again and hopefully not destroy the franchise.

The third one wasn’t so bad though, compared to all the films that followed

As far as where this franchise can go, they probably gotta leave Arnold, Connors, and others behind and introduce new characters in the film’s world. There isn’t much room to go with the characters we’ve seen. So I agree with OP

I'm in agreement with Salvation. Despite it's flaws, it's too bad they didn't continue the trilogy.

Can't go anywhere after T2, the surprises of T1 and T2 aren't there in the movies afterwards, everyone knows there's a evil Terminator, a good terminator or human soldier from the future, in T1 when we're first introduced to the Terminator we know he isn't quite human but we don't know what he is, in T2 you might think the T1000 is a human protector but is liquid metal, so it's kind of hard to have all that be effective at all when it's like pop culture common sense, in franchise movies you know all the surprises that are coming which takes everything out of the experience of T3, Genisys and Dark Fate.

If your gonna do a new instalment you have to change it up, you give people the exact same thing otherwise it will be "Dude we've already seen this".

Absolutely nowhere.
